As far as I know you can only run Linux (or is it Unix?) based systems. Which would mean no Vista. I'm not sure, I'm not familiar with computer programming and all that malarkey. I'm pretty sure you can't run vista or any Mac OS on the PS3 anyway.

Haven't tried any other OSs myself considering my computer is only 15 feet from my PS3. The only bit of excercise I get is the walk across the room so I don't want to eliminate that!

You can apparently, why you would want to is a completely different story

    http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/vista-gets-crammed-onto-a-ps3-its-as-bad-as-you-think/

Installing yellow dog is meant to be fairly straightfoward,I might get around to it some day

Don't even bother trying to run vista on it...demo i saw of it took approx 15 mins to boot into vista.

Yellow dog is supposed to be very good for it though.

Any pros or cons? Was it worth it just for a decent web browser? :-)

Worked great overall. Resolution was a little iffy but that was down to my old tv.Besides that it was pretty much a desktop.
Didnt read properly though and forgot how to boot into the XMB for a little while :o
If youve a big enough HD and kb/mouse obviously id recommend it :)

I dunno. It just worked really
Granted I didnt do much on it.Just firefox, pidgin and openoffice once in a while. Never had any issues though.Never tried anything intensive since the GPU is restricted

Because, the PS3 has blue ray, I have it hooked up to a nce Lcd in a room where I don't really have space for a PC too. I want to use it for web browsing, the PS3 seems very restrictive on what you can view on it. If not a Windows OS, any other suggestions. More importantly, has anyone had any problems with a rollback or removing an additionall OS.

bare with me, only recently (yesterday) got a ps3
but if you install an OS, some lunix distribution for example, will you have complete access to the hardware and be able to do, for example, install some ntfs support program, plug in a massive hdd via usb and play all the movies off it in their native res?

Not complete. It would be restricted from the GPU as I said above so that may put a perdinky in your plan. As for NTFS support on the partition ive no idea
