Would anybody know where I could source or refer to a copy of the 1991 Building Regulations?

I would like to check if the requirements for Part F Ventilation were the same at that time as the current Building Regulations for the height of habitable rooms.

Specifically, I want to know if the regulation that the area of the room at a height of 1.5 metres must be at least 50% of the area at a height of 2.4 metres was in force in 1991?

The 1991 regulation required 2.4metres clear headroom over 2/3 of the overall floor area of the room if I recall correctly.

thats not even 'in force' now.....

that particular 'regulation' is actually only a 'suggested means' of compliance. Theres a huge grey area with this. Personally, its what i use as the reg, but thats only because its the only prescribed suggestion.

I want to check if the upper floor of a 1 bedroom dormer house constructed in 1994 was compliant with Building regulations at the time.....

i dont have the actual reg to hand, but my point is, if it is still only a suggested reg in todays TGDs, then i cannot see why there would have been a specified means of compliance in teh 91 regs...

    The actual regulation only stated:

    Means of ventilation.
F1. Adequate means of ventilation shall be provided for people in buildings.

The technicial guidance document only provides an example of how to comply.

Ah! I think we may be back to a topic we discussed some time ago - what does the word "should" actually mean.

Anyhow here is the relevant part from the '91 regs under the heading "Height of rooms":
1.19 Every habitable room, kitchen and bathroom should be not less than 2.4 m. in height and the height of such room measured beneath any beam in that room and in any bay window shall not be less than 2.1 m. Where such a room is immediately below the roof its height should be not less than 2.4 m. over an area equal to not less than one half of the area of the room measured on a plane 1.5 m. above the finished floor level.

Unfortunately I dont have a link. I copied the text from the old TGD F I had lying on a shelf but if you wanted to PM an email address I could either scan and forward the pages or if you give me a postal address I can copy the document and post it

Edit; or I could fax them if you wanted
