Anyone know where are they located, says "in the heart of Dublin" on the website but thats it. Seem to have a huge amount of "stock", but where is it located? Can you actually see any cars before buying or is it just an Irish front for a UK outfit?

Fax number isn't Irish, looks UK format.

IIRC the cars aren't in Ireland, I believe they source them from the uk and the north... think, don't quote me, that they have an affliation with a garage outside ROI, which may explain the fax number...

I think they are in the place White Bishop were years ago near Crumlin hospital

I've come across their cars on Carzone, and I have to say, the name puts me right off (makes them sound like fly-by-nights), as does the practice of blocking out all the reg numbers (what's to hide?). Obviously they're selling UK cars (all the ads refer to "VRT included in price") which is fair enough, but claiming that all 737 cars are located in Dublin doesn't sound right to me.

Why is every picture badly photoshopped ? ;)

I rang them last week about an A4. The ad on Carzone said it was located in Dublin. It isn't. They are a UK car supermarket selling cars here. They might have some stock in Dublin, but certainly not all of it. Think he said the A4 was in Southampton (search for car supermarkets in Southampton and you might find them).

I wasn't overly impressed with the sales patter tbh. I posted this elsewhere but I asked why there was a difference of around €4k between two 2006 A4s - one an SE and the other an S-Line - and I was told the S-Line was a sporty car hence the difference. Alarm bells with me to be honest.

Kind of defeats the purpose if you have to go to the UK to view the cars. I wouldn't buy a car without seeing it and I doubt many would, and I can't see them shipping cars over just for people to view.

    They also claim this:
All cars are supplied with full service history and are one owner.

but many of the cars listed are 2 owner.

The whole appointment only thing just sounds ropey to me.

I would be very wary given that there are no reg numbers on show.

They are located on the left hand side heading towards the M50 on Crumlin Road/Drimnagh Road i think. Big stupid yellow sign saying Credit Crunch Cars above the garage. Was obviously a garage before but no idea what it was called.

Disclaimer: Im only passing opinion on the sign not the garage or cars they are selling.

Ok lads thanks for that, think the general idea is to stay well clear

Maybe not steer well clear, but do your research, and insist on viewing any car you think you might purchase. Don't be talked into putting deposits down on cars you've only seen online.

I personally wouldn't buy a car without seeing it. If you have to go to the UK to view a car from them, it kinda defeats the purpose - you might as well bring a car in yourself from the UK in that case.

It's obvious that they've seen a niche here to offer cars at a little over UK prices but under average Irish prices, and I'm not against that. I just think they could execute the idea a little better. More quality pictures of each car, the proper location of each car, the UK registration of each car and less of the "all 1 owner cars" type of stuff when some of them quite clearly are not 1 owner would be a good first step towards that.

Service history and a HPI check are absolutely essential with used cars. If either don't check out, walk away.

So it would look like its autoquake for me. They will deliver to Ireland for an extra 495 sterling

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 612 ✭✭✭McSpud

Are not Autoquake based in Birmingham?

I agree with post above that Credit Crunch Cars is not a good name.

If they are a UK car supermarket why don't they just get same domain with .ie

I don't have a problem with selling UK cars here but they should include the VRT. It is annoying searching cars on Irish sites only to discover price listed doesn't include VRT.

Unless I'm mistaken, didn't Carzone stop taking adverts from UK based companies about a year ago ? So maybe the UK company is simply having a minimal Irish base to enable it to tap into the Irish market ?

    Hi guys,

I posted here earlier, but as it was probably deemed advertising, it was deleted, so I will try to write this in such a way as not to be deleted again (moderator)!!!!

Im thinking of setting up a similar operation to these guys, only better with actual cars on site etc (obviously!), and would like to hear all your suggestions....this is market research, not an advert, so please don't delete my post this time!

    Richard.

They are still advertising UK, well NI anyhow, cars. The likes of Charles Hurst, JC Halliday, Agnews, etc. They have a 'special way' around this by setting up 'office' in a Dublin apartment yet the contact number is still +44, strange - no!?!

Hey Richard - word of advice (or two): have a legit site here in the republic, ensure all prices are incl of VRT, ensure all adv vehicles are on site here in the republic, Irish contact number a must (landline) and please, oh please do not convert prices direct from sterling, e.g. €9,347.56 - just round it off!

    Best of luck dude!

    +1

I hate looking up cars on sites only to see does not include VRT.

    hi Richard,
Saw your first post blatant advertising (had to admire it thou)bold boy

why?? O why?? would you want the hassle of setting up down here,
To waste your profits on needless expences, dealers here are closing not opening.stay up north people here will travel. Setting up a cardealership in the south=peeing into the wind at the moment.
    all the best

Why is simple....Market Opportunity....I intend on selling at slightly over NI prices, have access to free stock from my fathers business <advertising removed> and other dealers and have a guy with a yard that closed down due to divorce and the down turn, willing to work rent free on a partnership basis....plus I am sales and marketing manager for a North/South based Software company and they are happy for me to work flexible hours remotely from my new offices for them, so I earn every day, even if the business doesn't....so why not???

Official stats show that around 60,000 uk cars were imported into Ireland from the UK last year, and that's projected to reach over 90,000 this year (even with the economy the way it is!). Dealers are closing in Ireland, I agree. Rents on car yards are typically scandalous, and business is poor, but like I said above, my rent is not an issue, and I intend on entering the only expanding part of the market here, with a strong offering and good financial backing.

The credit crunch cars ppl are right....although their execution of the idea is poor. I have checked out these guys....the guy here is a <name removed> from Tallaght, a music teacher by trade from my research, and a <name removed> from Southampton, involved in music too I believe. No real car experience or knowledge that I can see (hence the amateur mistakes of hiding regs in the photos and leaving the web address out of their ad this week, and leaving the business address out last week, pretending to have more stock on site than they really do etc). Say, you don't happen to be involved with these guys, or in the business yourself do you now?

Your constuctive feedback is of course always welcomed.... but this is an opportunity that I am pursuing, at least until it proves that it doesnt work.

    Richard.

So that's what you consider "market research" then:

Advertising your business again and naming and badmouthing the competition.

That's a permaban for you, Sir
