As the owner of the current model I won't be trading for this anytime soon. Really disappointed. I hoped the 'concept' shown at recent motor shows was an abberation of some sort - who the hell does the styling at Subaru - the tea-lady?

    http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Search-Results/First-Official-Pictures/Subaru-Legacy-2009-first-pictures/

'Tis a pity because despite some idyosncricies the boxer diesel engine is a good 'un and showed great promise as a starting point. Peachy engines and AWD count for nothing when they make the packaging so wilfully ugly...

    F****k u Subaru!!!!

Is it just me or is all the styling of Japanese cars starting to look the same Avensis Legacy Lexus all very similar to each other

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Subarus have always been ugly - the looks are not something most buyers are interested in :)

But granted, the new Legacy is a lot uglier than the previous one. The new Impreza is also a lot uglier than the previous one. Pattern?

That said, both of them with the new boxer diesel are still very good value for money. Tip for owners: Just put on some very, very dark shades until you are safely inside the car. Once inside take them off err keep them on :D

I was going to say the same, but at least before they were butt ugly but purposeful looking. Now they seem to be blandly ugly attempts to look main stream.

I have to agree. Even the current Legacy suffers a bit from this, though - it's more modern than my Forester in quite a few areas, but lacks character. Subaru owners are generally very loyal to the brand, it'd be a shame for them to lose this.

Oh dear....that is bad. It looks like just another Avensis style jap box. Its a real pity as I was considereing changing to one next year and was holding out for the new model......not now though :(

The Forester used to be an interesting vehicle, more or less in a class of its own. The latest one is much more mainstream, and dull.

That said, the Impreza diesel looks tempting...

Ugh...even the Avensis is a looker compared to this dog! The current one is better looking in everyway (even the fake exhaust pipes:D)

The fake exhausts on the current Legacy are a shocker!...would be well pissed off to discover that

    I like it.

Current Legacy is on my potential wishlist, so this may have to replace it:)

I assume I'm alone in thinking it looks quite good... :D

Of course "good" is a relative concept, but in the case of a Subaru, it's like a girl who's not great looking, but you're attracted to her because she's sound and not a total dog?

So this was thrown on the heap ........... TUT TUT

Its a bloody shame....... As with the Impreza, the final model was miles form the concept design, what a dog that turned out to be  ..... and here we are again..

I actually dont think its that bad tbh, they made an absoulute pigs ear of the Impreza and as for the subaru jeep(not the forrester)/people carrier ... what a disgrace. There a drivers car no doubt but seem to heading in the wrong direction with design, How many new shape wrx's do you see on the rd ????????????

That's been blown out of all proportion and starting to p155 me off - the exhaust outlets are facing downwards a couple of inches from the outside on both sides. I hate fake anything but no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

The fugly new Leg is a far greater disappointment. I had one pencilled in for 2010 and was hoping for further power improvements and the 6-speed box.

TBH I think the Impreza can look pretty decent with bonnet scoop and decent wheels. There's no hope for that new Legacy though. A misguided attempt to go more mainstream i suppose. The Yanks will probably love it - the fat, tasteless, war-mongering bastards...
