Irish open syndicate. get your piece of the action!

We'd all love to have a chance to play the Irish open and for most of us who haven't been good (or lucky) enough to win a ticket it is a big disappointment.

I am putting the following syndicate offer out there so we can all have the chance of a piece of the action.
This will make the event more exciting for everyone involved and we can all have a few beers and enjoy the show.

If you were thinking of entering one last satellite this may be a better alternative for you as even if you dont get to play your money isn't dead! ;)
The main thing is to have fun and hopefully win some money. :)

Please read fully and if you have anything to add to this good or bad feel free to share.

    Proposition:
We are looking for 10 participants to put up 350 euro of the buy in (10%) and in return get 10% of the winnings (if any).

One of the stakers will get to play in the open on behalf of everyone else.

    Rules:
    1. The player will be determined by votes with each 10% of the stake counting as 1 vote.
    2. No person can vote for themselves.
    3. [In the event of a tie will have a tie breaker heads up match online (Best of 3).
    4. All participants must be a member of boards for over 1 year and have at least 100 posts.
    5. If two people want to buy 10% stake between them that is fine but please only give one name and sort it out between yourselves after that.
    6. All money to be paid to me in person or by bank transfer or on the morning at time of registering.
    7. If not enough capital is invested 48 hours before the tournament start time all monies will be refunded.
    8. Not so much of a rule but some advice. Whoever the player is try keeping the judgment to a minimum and instead offer support. The better the player feels the better he/she will do.

    The Player:
    • The player must be able to meet me at the Citywest Hotel early morning on Friday April 10th to register. It would be great if everyone else could make it down for support too.
    • The player shall post back updates to a new thread as often as possible to inform stakers of the progress who are not attending the event. I will also do this.
    • The player shall be responsible for all expenses occurring during the tournament outside of the 3500euro stake (this will balance off with the privilege of playing)
    • If the player cannot make the event for some unforeseen reason they must give 48 hours notice either on thread or give me a call and we will give the chance to the player who got the second most votes.

    Payouts:
There is an element of trust here so use your votes wisely to choose a good player but also someone who you can trust.

    • I will also have the player sign a declaration stating that he must return any winnings into the syndicate and will require valid photo ID on the day before registering.

    • If the player cashes money will be divided per each 10% stake holdings equally.
    • I.e. if you pay 350 for 10% and the player cashes for 30,000 you will receive 30,000*.10= 3000

In the unlikely event that the player actually wins the tournament payouts will be divided in the same manner but any knock on earnings will be entirely the players gain (i.e. sponsorships).

Final word: As I already said the structure of this is subject to change so if anyone interested has anything to ad or remove please reply or pm me.

Important: Do not enter into this if you can't afford to lose the money.
This tournament is no joke and even cashing would be a great achievement

List of interested participants (not paid up)

List of interested participants (paid up)

Very Important: If you see me there don't forget its your round! :P

No offense, but who are you? This is important if you are to hold any monies. There are other things I'm sure people will question other aspects but I am not going to be in this syndicate so I'll leave that to others to ask.

Hi thanks for your feedback. I was positive this question would come up.

If it is trust issue, People can meet on the day to pay up their fee.

Edit: If people are interested they can pm me for my details.

While you seem to have thought this through, there is one glaring problem.

The guy who plays is only going to have 10% of himself. The psychological aspect of this would be very worrying for all involved.

Why not play a 1 table satt with the winner getting a much larger piece and the other players splitting the rest? While the syndicate will have a smaller percentage, you'll be sure to have a player in a much better frame of mind for the tournie.
    Just a suggestion.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 2,168 Mod ✭✭✭✭L1m1tless

Hi thanks for your feedback you make a very valid point.

Hi that idea did come into play and I was thinking very strongly about it.

This way the potential of your 350euro never decreases.

At the end of the day someone is going to get to play in the Irish Open for 350euro and have a starting "support group" of 10 people. ;)
Regardless of the money I think Pride would be a factor of a much stronger degree.

If someone wishes to enter the syndicate but not put themselves forward as a player this would be acceptable also.

I am very down about not being able to afford to play myself and this is a way I can be a part of it.

I will be there anyways regardless. :)

If people would rather work it this way I can rejig the deal accordingly and sort out a SNG.

As I said it is open to change.

10% is a bit tame for the guy or gal that wins the stt.You need ta tweek it around ta something like
    1st. 40%
    2nd 20%
    5% for d remainder.....

Glad to see you have just over 100 posts.

@ Whyno 10% would be without a SNG. thanks for your input.

@Ollieboy as I said in previous post If people need my details they can PM me for them. If anyone plays at favourites club in maynooth they will know me.

Your entitled to your opinion. If you have any positive things to add please do so.

Edit: as I said twice already you do not have to give me the money. If you can meet up on the day in the morning when the player is registering.

fair enough, I've a idea who you are... but your asking a lot here and asking people to trust you to run it.

Maybe it would be better to nominated a very respect poster from boards to be involved and handle money/contract etc. Similiar to the football league etc.

Something positive i wouldnt give 350 euro to some random people who probably are busto if they cannot play.
Very easy for the winner to swap %s of himself with others get himself knocked out and be freerolling for a few 1000
its a public forum so anything i say does not have to be positive
i personally wouldnt touch it and wouldnt advise anyone else to either
teh fact you are remaining anonymous would be cause for concern

Yes I have no problem with this either. As I said I just want to have an interest in the event.

If a more well known boards member would do the honour of holding the money that would be great. I have thought long and hard about this and it would be a shame if it didnt work out. And lots of fun if it did. :)

i DONT KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND QUITE FRANKLY DONT CARE

at least it shows you have been thinking, which is great, I am taking it as read that you are honest and that the money would be held in escrow somehow by some trusted mamber

I do think that only having a 10% stake in ones self would be detrimental and would respectfuly suggest that the other 9 players would get 6% each, leaving almost 50% for the participant

on the other hand, it does give me an idea to sell shares in myself, as i will deffo be playing one way or another, even if that means buying a ticket

so if you want to buy 6% of me in the IO, just meet me out there with €300 smackeroos and i will give you a legal looking document stating you own 6% of any of my winnings on the day
be aware that i will only sell 54%, so only 9 buyers please

as yet i have no sponsor, but if you have someone in mind, i will consider all offers of same

    just so that i am clear on your original proposal;
is it that a sit n go would be played by the 10 people of does each person just vote on one of the 10 and the most voted player plays the event
clearly a sit n go would go some way towrads determining the players most likely to be successful at the IO ?

I DONT FREQUENT MANY PUBS OR PUB GAMES, SO I DONT KNOW YOU AT ALL

dont need to know you really, but i will take your money just the same, or participate in a sit n go for the 350, happily

ps. if there is going to be a sit n go, please try to get as many bad players as possible, its always preferable to have an edge

best of luck with this scheme of yours, did you ever consider being in sales ?
amway is a great starting point

i just had a super idea too
how about we buy 350 raffle tickets, charge a tenner each for them and have a draw for the IO ticket winner

if someone wants to organise this, put me down for 10 tickets, probably the best chance i have of winning one

maybe JP or the Jackpot would take this one up

    Derek

ps. i love the anonymity thing you are doing, adds enormously to the intrigue and suspence, brilliant, yeah
your name isnt David Brent by any chance ?

As we have our live tour running nationally I think we could be trustworthy to your satisfaction?

Thanks for your offer but I think people have just made a joke of the whole thing despite the time I put into the original idea and post.

perhaps if you were to run it yourself people would be more willing to take part and I would be interested myself.

    Hey Cowboy

all joking aside, well done for at least making an effort, I thought it was a piss take to begin with but if you are serious, count me in if you run a sit 'n go with the winner getting to play
also, i would want more than 10%, so i would respectfully suggest a lesser % for the other 9 and more for the player, so as to keep them incentifised
so i suggest 5% for each of the 9 and 55% for the player
i wouldnt be interested in that vote idea, as i want to play it myself and wouldnt be voting for anyone

also, if some club runs a raffle, count me in for 10 tickets
10/350 or 1/35 will do me for a chance of a ticket
    350 tickets @10 each for a 3500 IO ticket

good luck with it, also if you want a venue for the sit 'n go, i can organise that for you, FREE with dealer etc. in a card club

    Hi Cowboydreams,
The fitz are going to be running 10 handed Sit n Go's over the next week (basically 10 names interested and they will run them)

You can basically phone the club any night to see if there are any names down on the list - 01-6114677

details of stacks and blinds levels are here

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055526943

this would be a better option, and certainly would be better than what you have offered above

I would also be interested in what has being said with regards to the sit n go 350 x 10 = 3500, 1st 50% 2nd 15% and the rest getting 5%. The whole vote idea would be insane as this would be an investment of sort rather than a popularity contest. Also open to other suggestions.

    This does not make sense as 50% + 15% + 40% (i.e.8X5) = 105%
    not 100%

What makes sense is First 50% Second 10% AND the rest(i.e.8) 5%

I'd like to see it cost €380 a man, so there's €300 going towards the expense of a hotel room. A staggered % is far better than a flat 10% fee.

Why not a payout similar to a MTT final table payout?

    i.e.

    1st - 35%
    2nd - 20%
    3rd - 10%
    4th - 8%
    5th - 7%
    6th - 6%
    7th - 5%
    8th - 4%
    9th - 3%
    10th - 2%

Makes it fair to all and maintains interest in the entire event for all concerned, as said before by the elusive CowboyDreams

The Fitz running sit 'n go's is a great idea
no doubt there will be sit 'n go's in City West along with a mega sat out there

I will see if they will let me have a raffle ticket thing going on out there too

each ticket cost 10, with just 350 tickets on sale
we get somenone with no ownership of a ticket to pull the winner

if you do a sort of syndicate thing, it could be
    winner = 45%
    2nd = 15%
    3rd = 12%
4% for the other 7 players each

still leaves enough at the top end for the incentivised winner

    dere
