Whilst not a bastion of reliable knowledge wiki says we should be grateful it's only 6.5 as it used to be

Hmm after looking over the wiki quote it also seems it could be we still have over 800, and these 112 take 6.5 billion alone. I'm amazed at the existence of some of them, for instance eirgird is news to me, ESB is no longer in control of the network!!

You could cut two thirds of those and they wouldn't be missed.

To give three large example, Forfas (can't type fadas ), the IDA and Enterprise Ireland all do good work.
But I think they could be merged, sure give it a go. And actually, these are some organizations that might survive any cuts

Certainly seems that way.

One for every half way positive thing this government has done for the past 15 years.

Need to consolidate a lot of them. I really really doubt there is enough work for 3 or 4 different councils governing relatively small programs given it is the people below them doing the work. How can you possibly even manage that many programs with that many councils in health alone?

Jobs for the fooking boys is all that lot are. 6.5 billion wasted on keeping them there. I'm sure its actually less than that when you subtract the cost of the programs themselves which are beneficial, just not separate councils and advisory boards for every little bloody task.

I mean tell me what these two do:
