Some of you might remember me posting a good few months ago about a friend of mine who was caught at a checkpoint with no tax or insurance. She was given 10 days to produce both at Tallaght Garda station. My query at the time was that her boyfriend, who worked in the motor trade, had said that he'd give her his trade cert to produce, and I was wondering whether or not the desk sergeant at the station would actually check whether she was covered on the policy or not.

Anyway, long story short, she never bothered producing either the tax or insurance (because she had neither) and got a summons. Her court date was yesterday, but she didn't go. Her excuse is going to be that she never received the summons.

So, what will happen next? Will she get another summons? Does the possible penalty for the offence change because she missed her first court date?

I've known this girl since I was 4, and horrible and all as it sounds, I would love to see her get a serious wake-up call. She was driving around with no insurance for a year and STILL has no tax (out of date 2 years since January). She's also a demon for drink driving (and actually had a few on her when she was originally pulled for the tax & insurance, but wasn't breathalysed).

There's a good chance that she may have been convicted in her absence, if so and she doesn't pay a fine a penal warrant will be issued for her which could end up with her having to spend a few nights in mountjoy if she doesn't pay it.

Best advice is for her to contact Tallaght Garda Station asap... she could be disqualified from driving now and not know it.

If she gets it sorted asap she could lodge an appeal against the conviction but she'll have to be fast.

And i don't think we should do anymore talking about cases on public forum. (im not back seat moding, apologies)

Ring 666 6000 and ask for either the Garda who issued the summons the name will be on the top of the summons, or else ask for the warrants section and explain the situation.

If she wasn't convicted in her absence she could've taken a warrant if the judge decided not to hear the case in her absence.

According to the google machine that number is the Tallaght Garda Station.

Not Garda HQ

Maybe next time she steps into the car with a few drinks on her grab the reg say you will grab a taxi and ring the local station!
