P45 lost

    Hi,

Just wondering what to do since my P45 hasn't turned up. My employer sent it to the wrong address.

I went over and got my old mail but it hasn't being delivered. Maybe mail is just slow these days but it has been a couple of weeks and I'm starting to get worried.

I know your employer is supposed to give you a P45 but I know all the HR people and if they say they sent it then it was sent so it isn't the company.

I don't know if you can commit welfare fraud or something with someones P45 but the guys in the house were very sound about it and texted me when new mail arrived and everything so I don't think they would have done something like that.

However, I'm still in a situation where I have no P45 so does anybody know the procedure for this? I have been googling around but couldn't find any information on it other than the whole, your employer has to give you one thing but they have tried and its lost in the post I think.

just ask for another - it's not like a p60 where there is only ever one copy.

Cool, I thought it was like a P60. Guess I'll email my employer so. Thanks.

Your employer is only meant to give you one P45 as each P45 has a certificate number on it that is link back to the employer. Your P45 is a legal document and therefore cannot be duplicated!

To solve your problem... what do you need your P45 for and when did you cease your employment?

Well I need it to receive social welfare.

I was let go middle of Feb and still haven't received it. Living on savings at the moment.

Aren't they supposed to give me one? What happens if I don't receive it?

Ring revenue and ask them did they receive your employers copy of your P45. When your employer issues your p45 to you they also issue a copy of it to Revenue. If Revenue do not have your details then it is most likely that your employer did not issue your P45.
Part 3 or (c) of your P45 is what you need for Social Welfare. The copy that Revenue receive from you employer is not sufficent for you to produce to Social welfare.
If its a case that your employer insists they issued you with your P45, contact Revenue and see if they can assist in anyway. Also ask social welfare what your options are.

    :)
