Hi, I had build my computer couple days ago Phenom II 920 with Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-DS4H + new BIOS F4a, 600W PS + external small USB HDD+card reader and there is something strange for me, because when I switch off my computer everything is switched off but red power indicator on card reader is still on, external HDD is still on, optical USB mouse is also still on. Looks like there is still power coming into mother board to internal USB sockets. Is that normal, or how to fix it? The whole PC works perfect except that small power issue.

Yeah thats normal I think. I would have thought the mouse would switch off though.

Ok. but I never had something like that in my previous computers(laptops)? When I switched off computer everything goes off.

doesnt sound normal, is it hanging at the end of the shutdown?
    does the monitor appear ok?
is the system going into sleep rather than off?

as a check, power the system down by holding in the power button for 20 seconds.
    that should knock everything off.
if it doesnt, you may have a short somewhere, perhaps a loose cable or incorrect jumper

Are you using Vista because I have Vista pc which is hard too turn.Between the updates, soft power off option and what not its hard to figure out.But there should be no lights on

The whole system is shutdown normally, without any hanging at the end, the monitor apper ok, but for me look like the system is going into sleep rather than off. I checked whole mother board connections couple times and everything looks fine for me. Before I update BIOS I had some beeps at the start(when I switched my PC on it was 17 short beebs and after that whole system started), but now evertyhing is ok.

i have a couple of pcs that do this too. i'm not 100% sure, but i think it may be to do with allowing the computer to wake from usb? check in your bios and there may be a setting to turn this off.
If not, you could always have the computer plugged into a switched socket, so that when you shut down you can just flick the switch to turn the power off fully. This is what i do personally.

What's the exact process you go through to turn off the pc? My laptop was doing this too but it seems vista was only going to sleep mode instead of full shutdown. Previously I was clicking the start icon then the power button icon on the bottom of the menu. This actually only puts it to sleep (stupid misleading windows!) What I do now is click the start icon then go to the arrow on the very bottom right of the menu and select shutdown from this list. Is all working fine now.

It's doesn't work for me. Doesn't matter if I switched off my PC over power button on front panel in my computer case or system switch off still to same results. I'm all ready change in BIOS USB wake up setings, and still to same. May by there is something wrong with mother board?

I had this before with a pretty old board - can't remember if it was the case or the board though. Obvious step would be to hook everything up out of the case.

    Interesting though!:)

edit: You definitely flashed with the correct BIOS? 17 beeps sounds a bit unusual.

if you are on vista the default setting is not to shut the pc down , rather put it to sleep when you click the shut down button.

try going to control panel, and power options then click on change plan settings for what ever plan is selected. then click change advanced settings.

from the list expand power button and lid, and set the power button action and start menu power button to shut down.

That might be of use to you also Acree :)

My motherboard is not that old GA-MA790GP-DS4H (rev. 1.0) and I flashed the newest BIOS F4a, I had change that settings in the power options but doesn't help. All ready couple times I had hook everything up out of the case and put it back together but it's still to same. I have this mother board only 2weeks so mayby i should send it back to the service-it's still on warranty?

perhaps its the bios thats not quite shtting down waiting for a wake command? i wouldn't be too worried about it unless you're trying to save as much energy as possible
