I'm looking at getting a hydration pack, i know camelbaks are the most well known ones. Are there any cheaper brands that are as good as camelbaks? are there any brands that i should stay away from?

Do you mean an actual pack or the plastic bag insert that holds the drink? The one I use is Source, pretty widely available, fits in whatever back pack I'm using. I've never had any problems with it.

I was thinking the backpack and bladder together, I found some 2L gelert ones for under €20. This is about a third of the price of camelbak ones.

I'm going bringing it to the desert so the last thing i need is for it to start leaking or the bag to rip or something like that.

Gelert are best avoided, I've had two fail in exactly the same way.

Have a look here so. I have a cannondale one but to be fair I've not abused it like I would my climbing stuff. Agree with Evil Phil re the Gelert stuff, tends to be of low quality.
