Not sure what the story here but I got a new Sony TV and was surprised to see some digital channels were tuned (tried digitial tuning for the crack). I thought it was picking up my UPC digital (basic) package but some of the channels showed up blank

There is a CAM slot on the TV and I was wondering if I plug in the UPC card would this allow me to view the channels on the TV (i.e. would it replaced the UPC set top box for me)??

No. You can, unfortunately, only use the equipment supplied and owned by UPC.

Thanks suspected that was the case but thought it might explain how some dig channels are tuning and others are not

The channels you are seeing are the few that are not encrypted on the upc network. The majority of them are though so the CAM is a non-runner.
