    Hey guys,

I heard a rumour Leinster could be trying to sign Luke McAllister from Sale, I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about this? He could play at 10 in place of Contepomi for next season, I think it would be a great signing! Also heard about Eoin Reddan maybe aswell which i also reckon be a great signing!

hmm...not sure, but I thought I read somewhere that he had already re-signed with the NZRU?

    Edit: Doh

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luke_McAlister
It was announced on February 27, 2009 McAlister would be returning to NZ to play for the All Blacks in the IVECO Series and the Tri Nations of 2009.

Although isn't that Nacewa in the pic?

It claims he is a loose head prop so something is wrong somewhere, does look like Nacewa

Looks a bit like Nacewa alright but I'm not sure we'd want a "loose head prop" to replace Contepomi ;):)

Think it would be terrible for Irish rugby if Leinster sign a non Irish outhalf!

I would be severly pissed off. Give Sexton the chance.
I would hope the IRFU would red flag any such signing.

I agree, give Sexton a chance. We need some irish out halfs givena chance. We are very limited in that position and without O'gara we be lost in that area! McAlister is a great centre aswell and his goal kicking is fantastic

You'd imagine it would be, seeing as he had trials with Man United as a teen. :pac:

Since MC brought in Nacewa as an OH I doubt the IRFU interfere with provincial signings at all so couldn't see that being the case! It seems that the provinces have autonomy even though they come under the IRFU's control!

In his interview on the before the Leinster game on Sat Chieka referred to the need to sign some experiance along side Sexton... McCallister would be some experiance!!!

Anything but an Irish outhalf at the moment would be an absolute disaster.

FYP there. Lets be realistic Sexton has had plenty of chance to perform and make the 10 jersey his but he hasnt. He's clearly not good enough at the moment to be Leinster regular number 10. As a Munster fan I'd be delighted to see starting him for every HEC match next year though.

I think I first heard a commentator mention it during the WC.

EDIT: I stand somewhat corrected however - from Wikipedia....
Luke McAlister lived in the Manchester area from the age of four to 13 while his father played rugby league for Oldham, Castleford and the Sheffield Eagles, during which time Luke was a member of the Manchester United Academy

    Learn something new everyday! :pac:

How has he had plenty of chances to perform in the 10 jersey.? He has been behind Contempomi and Nacewa most of the time!

By saying he deserves a chance, I think most people are saying he should be given a decent run starting in the 10 position. At least 5 games anyway.

can you imagine Luke Mcalister in the heart of the united midfield, he would be the free taker!!

The fact he cant get ahead of Nacewa for the 10 jersey really doesnt bode well. When both of those were injuried he got a chance but didnt perform well.

    Unlikely. ;)

He'd probably have stayed if he was good enough to make it tbh.

Sexton is now ahead of Nacewa at 10, and being kept out of the 10 spot by Phil doesnt really reflect badly on him - Cant see why people keep giving him stick as he has done little to warrant it - Interestingly the best Leinster performance of the season so far was v wasps in the RDS with Sexton at 10.

Sexton didnt start at 10 he came on when most of the damage was done.

Keatley & Sexton fight it out for the jersey - Nacewa as back up 3rd choice 10 unless O'Malley or Tonetti (the form 10 in AIL I hear) get a run at 10.

    That's what I want.

Leinster have OH's coming out of their arse - probably the most promising 4 or 5 OHs in the country are all Leinster players - give some of them a chance!! (Humphries can no longer be considered "promising" and O'Connor has faided away big time!)

I never said Sexton started the game - But your memory must be a short one if you think the damage was done before he came on.

At the break we were only leading 15 - 11 and had lost our 2 main leaders in Cullen and Bod - Sexton started the 2nd half and we then went on to outscore wasps 26-0 in the 2nd half, as I said, the best we've played all season was with Johnny at 10.

I want a hc as much as anyone - my missus is a munster girl ffs.. but with rog getting on and warwick staying at munster I'd have to go with Jackass on this one - We've a world cup in 2 yrs time!!! we need to have all of our best outhalf prospects playing rugby

theres always a WC around the corner. ROG won't be any different in 2 years, he is hardly a running OH. Let the IRFU worry about the OH situation. There isn't a hope in hell leinster will progress as a team with Sexton at the helm.

I really want Sexton to succeed as well, but the fact is he failed to take his chances this season. He's played in a good few games this year already but has been mediocre at best unfortunately.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be given other chances in the future, but Leinster is an ambitious club with a lot of potential, and this is professional sport - how many ticket-buying supporters are gonna accept such a trade off between developing players and winning silverware?

Although we've underachieved at the highest level, Leinster are still one of the best supported clubs in Europe. This support has to be repaid / developed ast some point by means of winning competitions like the HC, or else Leinster doesn't have much of a future as a professional outfit.

O'Gara wont be any different in 2 yrs time?? - while your at it can you predict the Lotto no's for me??

Rog is now 32, and though we have been very lucky that he has stayed injury free (particularly as hes a target in every game he plays). Do you think hes likely to become less injury prone as he reaches his mid 30's???

We've gotten away with our 'head in the sand' approach to developing outhalfs over the last half decade, but to go to another wc with no replacement for rog is really pushing our luck.

Dont forget the next wc is the last shot many of our 'golden generation' will have of doing something at the finals.

As much as I crave Leinster success, National interests need to be put first on this one - but they wont, Cheika will buy in and were gonna be in a world of s**t in 2 yrs time
