    HI all,

Just started running recently and am up to doing 3 miles twice a week. Someone suggested that I try do do the Cork to Cobh run in October, ITs around 15 miles and fairly flat most of the way. Anyway just looking for advice on how much I need to train, when to step up the distances that I do, general things like that. any input would be appreciated as I am a running novice.
    Cheers

That's a good target race. However try to find a 10k or something beforehand, just to test your progress and to see what being in a race is like.

Continue what you're doing, but gradually build in a third, then a fourth day. Make one of those a mile or two longer than the others. You'll soon become a stronger runner.

Then grab a proper training programme - here is Hal Higdon's 12-week novices programme for example which you could use in the final weeks.

Good luck, report back to us!
