    Hello All,

I am having an annoying problem with SKY HD.

I am on my 3rd box since my trusty Thompson box went a-wall after two years of flawless service. Since then I have refused to take a Pace box (quite rightly I’m sure) but since then here is what has being happening,

Between 9.30 and about midnight Shy ONE HD ONLY pixalates and breaks up severely. I repeat this is ONLY on SHY 1 HD and ONLY between 9.30pm and Midnight.

Sky have every time sent out an engineer to replace the box. , and they are coming again on Thursday afternoon.

    In the meantime I have ;

    1) Replaced all the cable from the LNB with higher quality cable than SKY used
    2) Removed all wireless devices and internet from the house for a 24 hour period to see if this changed the situation and guess what? IT DIDN’T
    3) I’ve done so many FORCED downloads it almost seems like rape (sorry)

Has anyone else got any ideas ? I am a Broadcast engineer with 18 years experience, so simple things like correct cable runs and no joints etc are not the issue here…:confused:

Ideas anyone – BEFORE I STRANGLE THE NEXT SKY ENGINEER THAT CALLS!!!!!!!!!!!:confused::mad:

By the way the Signal Quality and Strenght is FULL and the transport stream is 07d4 and the Network ID is 0002 - both Lock indicators are reading OK

Are you sure only Sky 1 HD is affected?
Other channels on same transponder (12344.00 Horizontal)
Eurosport HD , National Geographic UK HD.
If you live in a terrace or semi (or even detached with close neighbours, Request that they switch off Wi-fi routers, DEct phones etc while you are having your problem and see if it clears.
Is the timing exact and every night?

Yes it is only on SKY 1 HD - I have checked the other Channels and they are rock solid.

I am in a semi D and next door dosent have wireless or a land line, but if that was the case I am curious to find out what problem would that cause and how would I sheild myself from this ?

I also am continiously draged kicking and screaming back to my original poin. THE THOMPSON BOX NEVER DID THIS

then you must have a poltergeist who does not like Sky 1

Other than that I'm stumped.

Do you or one of your close neighbours have a baby monitor?

I make the IF to be 1744MHz (12344 - 10600) which would put it in the 1800 GSM band. Someone using the mobile a lot? It should affect the other channels on the same transponder, though:confused:

I don't suppose anybody across from your house recently had wireless broadband installed (via aerial, not wifi from a phone line). This has been known to intermittently cause signal interference (usually on the horizontal low band).
But you would get interference from other channels on that band also.

I have the same problem. Only with Sky1 HD and only when someone is on a mobile phone. Not DECT but Nokia on both O2 and vodafone. My Sky cables run the full length of house and down the wall between Sky and motor dish. Also sky calco on 13 has same problem. It's a pain when people ring you for scores on a saturday. Try it maybe your the same?

Cheers for that suggestion Fat Tony - we are of like minds and to that end one of the things I tried was up to 4 mobiles on different networks all operating in the house at the one time. (WEIRD F**ING PARTY) - it had no effect.

Homelink - I also have investigated your option.I used to have the Wireless webb but got rid of it about 10 months ago in favour of Smart - Telecom. (Great product - Crap Customer Service). Next door have wireless internet for longer than the problem has being there so I am ruling them out as well.

I am affraid that I must go back to my earlier point. When I had the Thompson box I never had an of this problem. I have changed nothing in my home configuration since well before this problem has started to manifest itself. infact the last time I did anything with my home setup was in October last. The proble has only being there since late Feb since the first of the Samsung boxes arrived.

Has anyone got any thoughts on the Pace boxes that are now being offered ? I was wondering if I accepted one of those on Thursday when my engineer / fitter / installer calls would it be better / worse / same ?

    Yes Tom !!!!
Are we getting somewhere ? Could this be a fault with Sky's much maligned QUALITY (OR LACK OF) CONTROL ?

Couldn't say for sure, sky/phone but something is wrong. It's the same pain in the a$$ as sky+ing channel 4+1 only to find out days later when you watch it, SHE's been on the phone. I'm now going to check out Sky on my Technomates mobile&DECT and I'll report back.

Just done the test with my house phone ringing my mobile. Boxes are side by side with cables in same trunking with technomate cable an extra 12M long(gone to motor on shed)

Channel 4 Sky+HD froze as soon as I pressed any button
    Technomate no change

Sky1 HD Sky+HD broke up a bit on dialling but froze on ringing
    Technomate no change

Note: Herself walked in during first test (Supersize Vs Superskinny) so I've some explaining to do.

You can only explain that you're aspiring to the latter yourself and looking for some tips.:D
