I will be moving to the UK soon, selling my Irish car (it will kill me), and buying a new UK car. I am looking for something nice in the 40-50k range.(I'll have cash)
No VRT will be due as I'll live there, and I dont care about tax/insurance too much really. (it needs room for 2, and a bag, that's it). I'll be buying a 5k motorbike as backup too.

I was thinking Aston V8 Vantage, and 911 territory. Suggestions? I like form and performance, not exclusively either.

On a seperate note, as I'll be using public transport, and the bike as backup, what do you think the situation would be if I was UK resident but kept my car in storage in the ROI? Am I vrt liable?

997 Turbo, It may be slightly over your budget at £58k but sooooo worth it!! Drove one once on a track in the UK and it was UNREAL!! You'd never know what kind of offer they'd accept with the UK motor trade in sh1t!

    Maybe not in red though!

With that kind of budget I would be looking at a TVR - stunning looking machines

    That M3 is amazing!
58k is beyond my willing budget at least immedately. I might wait a few months with just a bike to afford something like that 997 Turbo!
Not in red..! definitely. Also I think it looks a little bit chav. It's hard to make a Porsche look chav, but somehow they did.

TVR's I have always loved. However having been in one, I have to say they are amongst the worst built cars I've ever experienced..!

I know of someone who woke up with a glow on his bedroom wall. His TVR had spontaneously erupted in flames on his driveway!!

Keep suggestions coming.. I want to keep the autotraders search engines busy in the coming weeks!

XKR, Lambo Gallardo (04), RS4, Bentley Cotinental GT (05ish) are all slightly within your range.

But I'd be looking more towards a Porsche if I was you!

Your current post count is 911. If that's not a sign, I don't know what is...

Im not saying its a bad thing but Porsches are very common in the UK compared to here so dont expect it to be as unique as owning one here.

I think if you could hold out and get a Gallardo. Its a beautiful car and not many get a chance to own one.

Also, Might be aiming a bit low but you wouldn't be far off the price of a brand new G-TR, I know its a Nissan but its a savage car and as fast as almost anything.

Surely you could get this for 40k or less

I drove one of these the same day as I drove a Gallardo and I much rathered it...but twas on a track so I dunno what it'd be like on the road!

I think owning something like this would be far better and more exclusive than a Porsche.

Ferraris are generally uncomfortable though. Long trips = Back Pain!

But people are suggestin Gallardo's, the 360 would be a far better car for everyday use than the Lambo surely?

And he'd get to own a supercar!

True.... Very True... But then again, you could get a 04/05 DB9 for the same price.

Baby Aston wouldn't be a bad idea too as the OP suggested himself. They look great and you may have a bit of cash left over for a nice holiday or 2 :p

There was a 05 DB9 for 45 on Pistonheads but I didn't put the link in because it'd ruin my Ferrari's!

I always rathered Lambo's and Aston's to Ferrari's, until I drove em, Ferrari is the Daddy! IMO! :o

First Ferarri is CAT D so forget about that one :)

Price seemed a bit dodgey thats why I put up the second one! Only fully read the summary there! Well the second one would do me nicely!

A Porsche would be far easier on the pocket maintenance wise. You'd want very deep pockets to maintain any Ferrari over 20k miles. That's why they get more affordable to buy (not maintain).

Aston has the looks and class out of all suggested!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,676 ✭✭✭ArphaRima

Yeah I reckon I cant afford to run a lambo or a ferrari. It'd make my whole year I'm sure, but I'd never be able to drive it! I'm pretty sure it would go down as a life mistake.. A really noticeable, flashy w8nker life mistake.
I'd imagine the car will do around 4k miles a year so running costs wont be too high, but I hear those marques literally burn money.

    A 911 I can afford. A baby Aston. An M3, RS4, Skyline etc.

And yes in the UK, 911's are really common. Mind you so are all of the above. That's partially why they are affordable now that everyone is f*cked!

I've been looking for the right balance between form, performance, reliability, build quality, and individuality/personality. The baby astons are looking nice..
