Celtic Manor Trip

I'm looking into heading over to Celtic Manor to play the 2010 course in the next few weeks.
While we're there we may as well play one of the other courses Roman Road or the Montgomerie.

Anyone ever been over there? or could recommend one of the other 2 courses?

By the way anyone thinking of heading over the hotel is surprisingly cheap for a 5 star (£99 for twin B&B spring offer)

    Thanks,
    Willy

    Jammy Git!

I was hoping to go this spring but it didn't work out for me.
I went there to watch the Welsh open in 2007... it was a bank holiday here and took a mad notion on the friday evening, dumped the kids with their granny and took the ferry from Rosslare to Pembroke on the Saturday morning... it was delayed a bit so we didn't get to see any golf on the Saturday.
We hadn't anywhere booked but we called the main hotel en-route and got a room easily. The hotel is beautiful. The spa bath (big warm pool) is fantastic. There is two different parts to the hotel I think, the modern part (resort hotel) and the manor house which is the original old bit. We stayed in the resort hotel but had dinner on the Sunday night in the manor house which was lovely. Our dinner on the Saturday night was a bbq with all the players and that was great ;) The ferry didn't leave until some god awful hour on Sunday night/Monday so we were in no rush to leave the place.... we were allowed use the facilities after checking out.

The Welsh Open was played on the Roman Road course and that's the only one I've seen over there and to be honest I thought it looked like a very fine course with great greens... one I'd love to play. The whole place is fairly hilly.
Anyone who has been there seems to rave about the whole setup so I reckon you'll have a great time regardless of what courses you play.

Thanks Licksy, yeah checked out the 2 hotels on the site.
Seems to be only 20 quid extra to stay in the manor hotel, but I think I'd be more comfortable in the resort hotel. I'm thinking the manor hotel would be nice to visit but maybe too posh and not enough craic!

The plan is rosslare to pembroke alright but ferry times are awful as you mentioned.
Looking into seeing what else is on in the area...might go to the shooting range while I'm there! how cool would that be :D

There was a great buzz in the hotel the saturday night we stayed there but it was the welsh open and it had been ladies day and there were loads of pretty fine things in pretty dresses there... (...mind starts to wander off). Definitely stay in the main hotel if there is that little difference in price - they are linked up via the underground conference area which is huge...
The foyer of the hotel is very nice... breakfast was great too... get to the pool... Damn, I want to go!

    Boards Society Trip, I'm in!!!

Something like leave Friday evening, stay over night on the Friday play morning and afternoon Saturday, stay over Saturday night, play other course on Sunday home Sunday evening/Monday morning!

    Thoughts?

    Regards
    Ian

Was there last September and have played the three courses there a couple of times.

Not impressed by the 2010 course and think the final four holes are very poor!

The Roman Road course is the best of the other two - some excellent holes there. The Monty course is shocking....they chopped some holes for the 2010 course and just dropped in some new ones!!

However, the value there is excellent with three courses and a top class hotel on site! They seem to have excellent deals at the moment!

played it once a few years back, absolutly superb setup, rented clubs and green fee came to about £80 and we had the course to ourselves, very long course and ALOT of walking in between holes, obviuosly catering for big crowds.... but a fantastic challenge and thoroughly enjoyed!!!!! Would definatly recommend it to any keen golfer
