Usually I prefer going to the shops myself cos you sometimes get a better bargain and Im a bit old-fashioned in that. When I got the laptop I got a really good deal cos I went into the shop and asked for it cheaper. Cant do that online but in this case the difference in price is so big Im tempted.
I havent heard any reports of the buffalo one but my Dad has a Maxtor and its fine, no problems.......

Anyone bought an external HDD that is USB powered? I've an external Seagate FreeAgent 250GB which uses AC adaptor. I don't want to have to carry power supply with me between PCs, so would like USB powered device. Anyone got any recommendations?

My main desktop PC has ceased to work correctly, so I don't want to wipe the Seagate just yet. I need to recover files from desktop and may re-install XP on it.

I am using a 500 WD 2 1/2"HDD usb only powered drive. €120 I would prefere to have Htwo of these than to be carting around a 3 1/2" enclosure with PSU.

what he said. i have one of these and they're good you don't want to get something too cheapy. If you're going to get something that big you want it to last at least long enough to make good use of it.
