This mix is a little less forgiving of the vocals. They were put down very quickly and you can catch a few pitch issues in there...
Very different to Mick's mix....very interesting to see how people interpret the same thing differently!

It would be interesting to get some of the Pro lads like StudioRat, Tweeky and Woodsdenis to give a critique ....

If we could get the Pricks to come down out of their Ivory Towers ....;)

Not TLA Ivory Towers either ....

First of all I have started a thread for mixes we should get everyone to use.

There are already plenty of threads for this project:p

Sounds good Barry. Just a couple of little things for me.
The guitars are really clipping especially on the fade into the drop.
A couple of personal preference things:
The kick is really loud and sucking the whole mix on every hit.
The snare sounds 100% replaced making the rolls on the drum entries during the quiet bits sound a bit unnatural to me. In my mix I used more of the natural snare from the close mics and overhead and used a bit of the sample to reinforce it. Like I say these would be preference and not right or wrong.

So I was at the SSL Distributors do a few weeks ago.
Sitting at our table were the lads from middle europe and an administration lady from SSL.

Being a bunch of geeks the conversation quickly went geekwards and the term
    flange was being used.

The Europeans had only heard the term used in the traditional recording sense.

Our Admin Lady had only heard the term used in the 'street' sense.

I, of course, was au fait with both.

It made for a very funny 5 mins ....!;)

the guitars are clipping thru the ssl channel (waves) which is supposed to be a nice kind of clipping.. but my ears are shot now so i cant even tell anymore. ill be going back to have a good listen to them after the old lugs get a rest.

i agree with you on the kick. i really need to get my head out of an electronic state of mind where our kicks tend to be huge!

i have the original snare in there but i guess its getting lost a bit. will check that out too.

    cheers michael.

In fairness, myself, supersnail & hennesjohn hounded DT with questions all day. We spent so much time quizzing him on comping/editing/compression/mix busses/EQ theory/creating space in a mix/drum replacement theory... that it was 7pm before he actually got to even think about a final mix... at which time, we all had to head home anyway.

It was all about the journey!

Can't wait to try my hand at my own mix... once I finally finish my PT LE 8 install!
