a friend told me over the weekend that i would not be entitled to rent benefit as i am working full time and im wondering if anyone here can offer me some advice,
basically i am currently renting privately in shared accommodation with two girls with my income my rent is affordable BUT i am six months pregnant with my first child and this will change my finacial circumstances completely, i HAVE to move out as soon as the baby arrives but i cannot afford to rent a place on my own on my wages, i will be receiving maternity benefit of roughly €200 weekly a significant decrease from my wages and at best my income during maternity leave will be roughly€250 weekly, rent is now looking to be roughly €200 weekly leaving me possibly with less then €50 weekly to pay bills/food/clothes/buy baby stuff and general expenses. the baby's father is in full time education he will be in his last year but as he is a student he doesnt qualify for any benefits, he works part time for about €100 a week and most of that goes towards a loan he has, he will be living at home with his parents.

i was hoping to have rent allowence to help me out until i returned to work but from what i can see the system doesnt encourage people in my situation to stay in the work place, if i were to lose my job i would have a significant increase in my income through job seekers allowence/rent allowence...etc i dont want to become another unemployed statistic but im not seeing how i can get financial aid throughout maternity leave other than maternity benefit. i love my job too and as i work in th IT industry i know i would find it hard to get another job like it so i dont want to leave but if i dont leave i know im going to struggle and not be able to cope,
does any one know of anyhting or anyone that could help me? it is really stressing me out.

would you not be entitled to single mothers benefits? i don't know anything bout this but try your local citizens info or their website. you could try speak to local community welfare (health board) but they might tell you come back when you're not working....worth a try anyway.
