A question on Parallel Parking?

Twice last weekend while in traffic I saw a space which needed to Parallel Park in order to get into. Both times the car behind me has driven up close me preventing me from being able to reverse into the space.
So what is the procedure in order to signal to the driver behind your intention so that they will stay back and give you room to manoeuvre?

Indicate left, slow down and stop AT the space, then move forward once hte car behind stops. If you notice them pull forward, just stop your car again, they should get the message.

I normally stop at the space, put on hazards and wait for the driver of the car behind to be making eye contact with me in my rear view mirror. I then switch off the harzards, put on my indicator, pull forward, and reverse in.

i agree with the above. though after you have stopped, put the car into reverse but don't move. once they see that the reverse lights are on that should give them the hint that you are looking to move into that spot. there isn't anything else i could think of, unless you asked the passenger to get out of your car and stand between you and the car behind you :p

I find some people complete twats when it comes to this , indicate slow down stop at the space put the car into reverse , People beep and flash and tear by Making it out that your doing something wrong... and then theres the people that come up right behind you and wont move , and cant reverse because theres cars behind them , and cant go around you because its a busy street , grrr:mad:
