Any idea what was going on at Waterford Train Station last night around 8.30 pm? Loads of fire engines, ambulance, guards, etc.

A worker received minor injuries when moving some stuff apparently. I assume the amount of emergency services was a precuation (accident, train station etc)

According to RTE the Irish Rail worker was injured by some moveing rolling stock-injuries not life threatening.

was out in A&E when three workers were admitted last night about this actually. Thankfully it wasn't more serious.

The press have learned pretty much the full story (well, News & Star).. RTE managed to not get the full story.

So it turns out that the engine on the train that arrived from Dublin was on its route back to the front of the train for tommrows journey. There were some staff on the stationery train and one in front working on the track. The engine was reversing back and as a result of the signal not being changed (allowing the train to switch tracks and later connect to the front) the trains collided. As a result there were minor injuries and one was kept over night for observation (the guy on the track).

Luckily nobody was seriously hurt. This was something that the driver and the rest of the crew had a lot of experience with so it was just unlucky that the signal forgot to be changed resulting in the collision.

(This is covered in todays News & Start btw, so its public knowledge now)
