Dumb stuff that has happened in wrestling by default...

Right folks, this one got me thinking.
Whilst on my wrestlemania countdown, after watching Wrestlemania IX, which by standards set, was a dumb thing that happened in wrestling by default. But here's what I mean by that.

At the main event of this, the crowd chanted USA throughout half the match, which would be fine except that the heel (Yokozuna) was billed from Japan (despite obviously being Samoan) and the face (Bret) was billed from Canada.

So really, chanting USA would be kinda dumb as neither man represented the country, so the fans aren't helping either of them!

Anyone else got anything to add to this?

Well was Adamles "gimmick" of mispronouncing stuff come from his actual mistakes in his early days as commentator on ECW?

Lances Storms "boring" gimmick was just a dumb idea, not sure whether that was by default though.

Batista being useless when really he should've been class

owen harte trying to fly was a tad dumb.
    Seriously though. Hmm.
Although he was me favourite wrestler of all time. I could never figure out why the ultimate warrior went around shaking the ropes and then went mental.
Remember one of the bushwackers sliding into the ring at one of the royal rumbles and someone kept the slide going and he went straight out the other side. Was hysterical though.

Fans popping like mad when stonecold hit Stacey with the stunner for not drinking his beer:rolleyes:
The crowds utter obsession with seeing the Dudleys put Trish through the table was a tad disturbing.:(

That didn't actually happen though. He climbed through the ropes, and i think the Warlord threw him over the ropes on the other side. But it wasn't a continual slide. It was at the 1991 Royal Rumble.

Had that happened, then yeah it would have been hilarious alright.

Injury is a bitch. He wasn't the same since that 2006 injury. He's since gone down the showbiz route, but it worked for Hogan so hey...

To be fair, the circumstances weren't that black and white, dude.
Goldberg, if i recall correctly was on a certain amount of matches per year contract, and his last one was booked for Mania, hence why the story was dragged out without Bill being in the ring.

Lesnar on the other hand, was a different story. He handed in his notice AFTER the match was signed. He'd gotten a lot of heat a couple of months earlier for being reluctant to drop it to Eddie Guerrero as well as his investment in a private plane for traveling around in.

But yeah, the match was a complete abortion and a failure of abysmal proportions.

It was annoying, but it was over, it created crowd interaction (still does to this day), and sold a rake of t-shirts.

    I can't see the problem there. ;)

I think Booker T had a variation then of "Who"

It lasted about a week I think, however it also got thrown into a promo video that would be shown on RAW for a few weeks in 2002, imitating the shaft music. It was a flop because 1) People didn't care that much for Booker T back then, and 2) the joke was not only not that funny (the "Who?") reference, but it had been forgotten about by the time the video had aired.

I hate the what thing... It still annoys me to this day...and i really dont get what caused it to become so popular.

It was an in-joke from Austin to Christian. Austin was on a road trip and rang Christian one day, Austin was bored bandy and it went to Christian's voice mail. Austin left a really long voice mail saying what he was seeing on the road, and instead of full stop like pauses, he ended everything with What?

They took it to TV. As to what made it so popular. I'd say it was Angle's reaction to it. Angle played the goofy heel at that stage and anything the crowd would do to rile him up, they would. It just kinda stuck after that.

It was ingeniously simple. Used to bug me when it was chanted during non-Austin situations though. It only seems to get wheeled out by fans now during Wrestling weddings... which is fair enough i suppose...
