today on sky news the main story was the home sec's use of her expenses account for porn films worth £60. But only hours earlier 3 people had died in a house fire in england and a forth person(child) was serious in hospital. How can they justify the first story as more important than the second.. am really annoyed:mad:

Its the Daily Mail/The Sun of TV stations

It is on Sky, just need to add it to your 'Other Channels' in the Services menu.

Yeah, I noticed that and thought it was ridiculous too - but then I went on to the Guardian website and it was the lead story there aswell.

There were differences in how it was covered: Sky News focused on the porn and how embarrassing it was. The Guardian did too, to an extent, but it also looked at how expenses for British MPs is currently a huge issue and how this is just the latest in a series of controversies over them.

Either way, it's hardly something that should be given such prominent coverage anywhere.

Sky News wasn't always bad, but it's been pure drivel for the past 5 or so years. The best news channel I've ever watched was actually ITV News but that's now disbanded. The ones I watch now are:

    EuroNews
    BBC News 24

...and to a lesser extent CNN

Hold on a minute. The Guardian led with the story the next day, as did most other broadsheeets and tabloids. I like Sky News. I think some of their journalists are excellent, particularly Matrtin Brunt, the cirme guy and Adam Boulton, the political fella.

Led with which story the Minister or the Fire.

TBH the Fire only got on Sky News because it happened in England. If it had happened in Scotland, Walse or Northern Ireland it would have been disregard.

Newswipe is a good show as to what News people promote as news, Charlie Brooker was pointing out how the Sky News people stood outside Jade Goodies house as she died while having a small proportion of the news set out to the Peace Protests in Northern Ireland on the same day. Which would you run with, I think Northern Ireland was a better story.

But the people in "Mainland Britain" don't give a monkey's for the going's on in NI. You could also say the same thing about the people in the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland = Zzzzz...! for most people.

A story about Jade would unfortunately have more people tuning in.

Not this again  I am talking about "mainland England" as I said you rarely here about news from Scotland and Wales you would think that they didn't exist.

News is news if you are a Broadcaster that is aimed an UK audience then you respect each country in that union  I totally support an Independent England if they want it :)

Yes but he also owns other media and news outlets that possible covered the story, you cann't always blame the owner. How did the BBC run with these stories.

Nothing else is happening in the world other then The Recession.

Exactly! This story is set against a bigger backdrop. There is huge disgust at the moment over Ministerial expenses and certain ministers claiming expenses for their second home in London. It turns out that some of them are claiming the expense even though they are staying with relatives while in London.

Taxpayers in Britain have had to fork out a lot of money for the irrepsonsible behaviour of banks only to discover that many of their executives still got big bonuses, pay-offs and/or huge pensions and now they find this type of scandalous behaviour from their MPs.

That said, this story has been absolutely ridiculously overplayed by British media but it's not the first time and unfortunately, it won't be the last time.
