Whats wrong with my car?

Can anyone help with diagnosing possible reasons for this fault with my car.
I have a 99 renault clio 1.2. Just got it as a second car. Problem is I was driving to Donegal one w/e. Was going fine then noticed when I accelerated it would slow for a second then take off. Later when I stopped at a junction it just cut out. Took about 20 seconds turning the engine before it restarted. I had to do this again, revved it and it was fine. Acceleration was perfect.

Thought it was a glitch but on a short drive recently it started to rev up on its own. I tapped the throttle a couple of times it cut out and took about 20 seconds of turning to restart.

I'm thinking electrical fault. Got the car off my sister in law. She had just spent 800 getting it serviced. Got a new battery etc. When she noticed the fault she took it back to the garage they couldn't find the problem never mind the cure. My thought would be airflow meter or something but my knowledge here is very limited. This is a cheap car so I dont want to spend too much on doing it up.

    Any ideas.......

This is not a good way to diagnoise a fault but from what you have said, reading between the lines so to speak, I'd have a guess it's a fueling control fault due to fact the you stated it reved up of it'd own accord. Can't help much more I'm afraid.
