Is there speed cameras in the port tunnell

    Was travelling in the port tunnell this afternoon and forgot to turn on my lights so couldnt see speedo anyway i noticed the 80Kph signs started to flash on and off i guess some sort of a warning as when i looked at my speedo it was just over 100 Kph anybody know if they have speed cameras or do they process speeding through the tunnell monitoring station.

    They have averaging speed cameras to enable those warnings. As they're not the police or a contractor thereof they can't issue fines or give you points though.

    i had presumed that those lights were on for every car.
    Travelled through the tunnel a number of times and they were always lit up!

    oops!

    Never lit up for me either. There was talk of average speed cameras in the tunnel, but I don't believe they have been installed as yet.

    AFAIK, if they add speed cameras, by law, they have to have signs advising that they are installed. There are no signs, so I'm pretty sure there are no cameras that can result in a speeding fine.

    The large VMSs at the portals state that there are speed cameras fitted.

    Either way, the cameras - which are fitted - are not police cameras so they can't issue fines.
