Has anyone had experience of the Nissan €99 Service?
If servicing a non nissan car do the use genuine parts or not? What quality is the oil used? Will manufactors warranties be voided if the car is serviced under this offer?
Do they have the equipment to reset variable service intervals?
I drive a Skoda Vrs Diesel and a service is due soon.
Any help or comments are welcome :)

i'd assume a main dealer would use the correct oil, it wont void the warranty and you can google how to reset the service indicator

I would imaging whatever €99 service offer that you heard is actually "from €99" and your car may cost more, a lot more.
FYI, I don't see anything about service offers on nissan.ie!

Yeah a link would be appreciated. Anybody got one or knows more about this service deal?

I recently had our Rover 75 1.8 petrol serviced. Bought 5l 10W40 semi synth oil (€33) plus oil filter (€7) in Halfords myself and paid mechanic €30. Total €70

So €99 from a main dealer seems very cheap indeed

Meh. That offer is only available if you buy a new Nissan. Or is that tiny little condition the one you were referring to? :D

The most important word in this offer OP is the word "FROM"!

Be sure and read the small print...

Halfords are typically quite expensive for oil; local Motor Factors does 5L 10W40 for €22. (Aside: 0W20 from the manufacturer is cheaper than 10W30 in Halfords)

So you had the oil and filter changed rather than an actual service?

Aye. I paid the full price for their own brand oil as nothing was on offer at the time. I've just bought Mobile Super Plus last week - 5l of semi synth 10W40 for less than the Halfords branded oil I mentioned in my previous post

Yes. I NCTd the car until February '11 back in December and the previous oil service was done less than a year ago at about 5k miles ago. I replaced the original (8 year old) battery in January too. What else should I have done?

An NCT has nothing to do with a service and an oil change is only a minor part of a service.
A service involves preventative maintance and inspection of safety related items as per the manufacturers service schedule. Examples of same would be inspection of suspension and brakes for wear, leaks etc. Checking brake fluid for condition or changing as per schedule. Checking and/or changing coolant. Checking and adjusting timing belt. Checking electronic systems for fault codes.
The list is as least as long as the service schedule :)

Thanks for the detailed reply :)

A service at the detail you mention would probably cost more than the car is worth :D

The car is deemed to be safe (new NCT), all electrics work and there are no leaks (after I fixed the big water intake leak in the boot with tape, that is). There are no error messages (after the main dealer diagnosed and fixed the drivers airbag sensor issue). The cambelt needs changing at some point though indeed. The car drives very well, there are no issues at all. (there was an issue where the throttle body was dirty leading to the engine revving when it should be at idle but the dealer spent hours trying to clean it / fix it only to report to me that it should be replaced. They didn't have the part and I drove home anyway and the problem was sorted within the mile :D)

As of late, there have been a number of threads about services and service cost which IMO show a general lack of understanding of what is actually involved in a service. That was the reason I picked up on the 99 Euro service and your even cheaper one.
Its of course different in your case as all you wanted was an oil change, except maybe its not. You say your car is safe because it passed the NCT. Hopefully you are correct but in reality an NCT cert does not prove that. Take the brakes for example. The NCT checks the performance at the time of the test but does not involve a visual examination. A weeping seal may not show up on a performance test but could easily show up a short time later as brake failure. That is why brake inspection is part of a service. That’s just one example which hopefully explains my point.

ok did a quick call and got the following info.
€99 euro "service" is essentially a oil,air and oil filter change with a "21 point checklist" inspection. Didnt
To Service my own Skoda diesel it would cost €289. Service to include oil,air and oil filter change with a "21 point checklist" inspection. Orginal parts. As well as a brake inspection and rotation of wheels.

To do a price cross check i rang the main dealers in Galway and they will do a full service as per Skoda Requirements for €220. This will include oil air and fuel filters as well as brake checks and other safety checks.

NCT state no guarantee of anything. Roadworthiness is still the responsibility of the owner, and the NCTS state this.
