I would have expected Run_to_da_hills to mention this, but he's probably pinned down in a gun-battle with aliens on the mothership.

Have the Chinese, not to mention The Russians, got better technology and IT skills than the West, or is the West just sh1t at security?

The Chinese seem to have it all sown up.

Here's a bit of the article

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article5996253.ece

    From Times Online

    March 29, 2009

World's biggest cyber spy network' snoops on classified documents in 103 countries

China's cyber-hacking operations are becoming increasingly sophisticated

A cyber spy network operated from China hacked into classified documents on government and private computers in 103 countries, internet researchers have revealed.
The spy system, which investigators dubbed GhostNet, compromised 1,295 machines at Nato and foreign affairs ministries, embassies, banks and news organisations across the world, as well as computers used by the Dalai Lama and Tibetan exiles.
The work of Information Warfare Monitor (IWM) investigators focused initially on allegations of Chinese cyber espionage against the Tibetan exile community but led to a much wider network of compromised machines.

Except that in the good old days, the West kept as much technology from them as they possibly could. Now of course, in it's quest for cheap labour, the Western hi-tech companies have all got manufacturing facilities in the far east. The greedy bastards, like Dell, have now given it all away, and probably fecked up the world's money supply by handing over truck-loads of dollars to the Chinese treasury.

Maybe the west are better at hiding their technology than the Chinese and just haven't got caught yet.

Good choice of name for one of the reports
Two researchers at Cambridge University who worked on the part of the investigation related to the Tibetans are releasing their own report. In an online abstract for The Snooping Dragon: Social Malware Surveillance of the Tibetan Movement

If this doesn't teach the world to stay away from Microsoft products, nothing will.

Between them and the Taliban, if they like the PLO at one stage, get around to
training in I.T. - then yes, we would be well and truly screwed.

Side note: The PLO (with a further specialised internal group) at one stage was the highest creator of viruses in the world. Their thinking was that if they created a good enough virus('s) at any one time, they might be able to internally attack the American banking sectors and American economy.

Looking at how the American economy has effected the rest of the world today, you can see examples of their terrifying effects had they succeeded...

So...the Chinese get caught hacking into a bunch of computers and you think it means they're better?

What exactly do you think the CIA has been doing for the last couple of decades? Any common hacker has a decent chance of breaking into all sorts of networks, the trick is to not get caught. And ideally not even have suspicion drawn on you at all.

This hack-fest was probably orchestrated from Langley :D

Sure everyone knows about the chinese hackers. Hackings how they get their cash when all the supplies are gone. They can also hack your buildings and sell them. Sure theres armies of chinese geeks sitting in fields hacking away on their laptops.

"you do not have permission to access this page."

I assume its some banning list thingy where someone with the user name "China" is listed as banned however.

    If so, lol. :pac:

The Chinese got caught "eventually", but we'll never know what damage has been done until we all of a sudden have to learn Mandarin. :P

There have been several instances where western intelligence hasn't been on the ball in recent years, so it's best not to be too confident.
