Am seriously considering buying a Peugeot 407, the model i was looking at is 2006 ST Comfort, i have never before owned a peugeot.
Th radio/dash is the one thing thats putting me off as its very bare/plain.

Yhe price is very good for a 2006 model, should i spend extra and get the solitaire model.
I would be very grateful of all suggestions regarding this car.

What engine has it got 1.8-2.0 petrol or 1.6 hdi-20L hdi...:)
I have 04 407 1.6 hdi with 73k with no major problems so far.
I bought it with 58k and replaced both lower balljoints as the need replacement every 30k ish.....
other than that i find it very comfortable and the 1.6 hdi has plenty of
power for it's engine size which is also returning between 48-55 mpg...:)

Considering you're going to be spending 90% of your time looking at the inside, rather than the outside, perhaps this isn't the car for you?

Its the 1.8 petrol engine. Its 06 with 35k miles
Is there good extras in st or is solitaire a better option.
ST Comfort seems to have a good bit in it

with a 407 its best to go diesel as they make some of the best around. The petrols are not well liked generally and lose value quickly. AFAIK the solataire just ads bluetooth, sunroof and wood trim. I'd advise against buying the 1.8

I drove the 1.8 before and it had no poke what so ever. For re-sale alone I would go for the 1.6HDI

I always found the 407's centre console to be rather cluttered with small buttons, especially the radio and climate control switchgear.

As others suggest I would not bother with the petrol models, they are almost sale proof. Either the 1.6 or 2.0 HDi for me.

    +1 on both points.

1.8 is gutless and sale proof. Plenty* of poke in the 1.6 HDI.

*Enough for a 1.6 diesel that is.

i had a test drive in an 05 407 recently in wicklow, a very nice car to drive and it was priced around €8500.

Ya that price sounds about right,
The diesels are a lot more expensive, i'll have a look around for one though
