Interview tomorrow - but salary unclear?

    Hi there,

I have an interview tomorrow for a role which I am v interested in, in a great company. Its through an agency and the agency have told me they have been told they haven't been told what the salary level is. This agency know my salary expectations and what my bottom line is (which is significantly lower than when I started jobhunting before Xmas).

I've just been on the web and found the same role advertised with another agency and the salary level is much (ie a third) lower than my 'bottomline' and a salary at which I'm better off staying at home (I have two kids, so two creche fees so need to earn more than that for it to make sense for me to work).

Anyway, am wondering what I should do? Any advice?

    Thanks

    M

You should go there, do your best in the interview and don't worry about the salary until they actually make you an offer or you have another offer to consider.

    Thanks.

    You are right.

I am in a bit of a tiz - interviews have been so thin on the ground - it's only my third interview since Xmas so don't want to botch it. At the same time if I can't afford to take the job what's the point? I am inconveniencing others by going - my hubby today taking kids out of the house so I can prepare, and a good friend minding them tomorrow.......and feel I'll be letting them down if it's not a runner. that said it's a permanent job, chance of promotion, etc.......

You are right. The agency that posted the salary may be incorrect, I ahve used them in the past and didn't find them great.

Anyway, thanks. I will keep doing my prep whilst peeling spuds, roasting chicken, making gravy ;)

Negotiate with the company directly. Your agency is giving you this opportunity, another agency might very well post a salary which is completely off the wall to attract high profile candidates then tell them "sorry due to the recession the company is now offering much less" and hope they bite. Not unheard of.
