Theres nothing different that i know of with .ie, just contact the new host about a domain transfer, give them the domain and details then pay for the transfer and then thats it, your expiry date is then adjusted to a year from the date you paid for the transfer.

You don't even have to transfer the domain. You can just login to your hosting company and change the DNS to your new hosting. Done it lots of time. Find the email you got whne you bought the domain, it should have login for changing DNS.

keep getting the same error on godaddy:

We cannot locate this domain name's DNS record for one of two reasons:

The DNS record is not under our control. Your Web site cannot launch until the record is manually changed to point to your hosting account's server. To help you preview your Web site before changing your DNS record, we have enabled Preview DNS. Learn More

The domain name was just purchased and a DNS record has not yet been created. Once created, your DNS record will update automatically.

have changed the dns servers on the old host and still no joy

Sorry misread your first post, thought it was the domain you were changing not the host. You said you have changed the DNS and no joy, these changes arent instant you know? There is a DNS update twice a day where all changes are made, you will have to wait about 24 hrs once you make the change for it to take effect and before you see any change.

When did you change the nameservers? Can take 24 hrs for changes to take effect.
