Tyre noise Mazda 6 H/B

    Folks,
I have a Mazda 6 Hatchback and it has awful road noise when doing speeds between 80-90 Kph. The noise grates on my head when driving.

It is not there at speeds above 100 Kph and it isn't really noticeable at speeds less than 80 Kph.

The 2 front tyres are Zeetex, on since about Oct 2008,
one of the back wheels is a Camag and the other a Nantang.
All are 195/65/R15s and the wear is approx the same on them all.
The noise is I think only there since about Christmas 2008.
The current tyre pressure is 32 PSI.

One solution is to replace all tyres with the same brand, that should cure the problem, any other ideas?
    Thanks

Try to increase the volume on your stereo, that helps sometimes, but not solves the problem. Probably your bearings are gone. Bring it to one of the quick fit pitstops for free advise. Also, it might not be the problem, but your tyre pressure is a bit too high IMHO.

It could be a bearing issue. They can give a similar noise. The mark 1 Mazda 6 was known to have a fair bit of road noise anyway, and the cheapo tyres probably aren't doing it any favours

Yep, one of the few weak points of the Mk1 Mazda 6. I think the facelifted versions (after '05?) were slightly better...

I think, as others have pointed out, that you might want to do some troubleshooting before you go buy a new set of tires. If you have a trusted mechanic, who can sell you the tires, but also will diagnose the problem first, this might be your best bet.

The problem could very well be the tires, but there are a lot of other things that can cause noises to come from the tire area.

Honest to God! I still own my first car for 4 years now and I did have the same noise in the back. Before I went to mechanic all M50 was listening to my stereo through the sunroof. IMHO loud music is better that that annoying bearing.

    :D
