My apologies if this has been previously posted.

On accessing the UK EPG through SKY NEWS Interactive this morning, I noticed that channel 4 is now on that EPG at 104 and in the clear.Previously channel 4 was absent. I use this epg every week to listen to radio 5 live and radio 2 in bed on my Sky Gnome every Sunday to save me getting up to change channels etc!!

This would mean that now just FIVE is missing from that EPG. The need for a FTV card is now almost totally gone, even for completists who now have nearly all the UK channels on an EPG. I think we could nearly all live with out FIVE US,FIVER AND SKY 3.

Maybe this is part of eliminating the need for FTV cards before the Card switch later this year?

So, you're saying on a Sky box without a card of any description it has appeared on the EPG, yes?

The primary reason I have a FTV card is actually for Channel 4 HD, which IMHO is the the best of the 'free' HD channels.

After a reboot my SkyHD box without a card has Channel 4 alive and well on 104. :pac:

Yes,without a card inserted it appears on EPG. However, Channel 4HD will not work.It looks for the viewing card to be inserted.

    C4 HD is still encrypted

Hmmmm I thought this had just popped out of nowhere (or rather the Extra Chanels sub menu) I have an ex subscription Sky box without card up since Monday so hadn't yet got used to what was where and was wondering if I'd missed it.

Can they do the same with Ch 5 (not that it has anything worth watcing)?

What? Every UK channel is on other channels. You don't need to get a FTV card or do any sky news bulls**t

    Hi,
You guys not being specific if ya,ll using basic sky box, sky+ box or free to air receiver.bbc1,2,3,4,itv1234&.film4,e4 and timeshift versions as well as channel 5 are available on an 80cm dish pointed at 28 east(home location of sky and freesat) without a card of any kind.

on basic sky box press services, then system set up,then add channels.

    Polararity H/V by right/left arrows

Symbol rate s/r by up/down arrows. fec (forward error correction) by left/right arrows, finally press the yellow button to choose which channels you want and press select.
The channels can then be viewed by sevices>other channels.
Frequencies, polarities and symbol rates of all available channels are available from this link below.

This is about the EPG on a skybox. Previously, Channel 4 was scrambled on the UK EPG. Now it is in the clear. This means you don't have to add it to "other channels" anymore.

Many people use the blue button to set up favourites on each of the FTA channels, allow you to cycle quickly through the channels you have. You can't add favourites from the "other channels" menu.

Other channels gives you the full EPG? Of course it doesn't

Do you mean on the Irish EPG? It works fine on my UK EPG with no card.

I mainly use U.P.C digital but I have an ancient receiver for sky I bought to connect to an ancient dish, all I wanted was the use of the red button on sky/bbc.

The card is the 1st generation dark blue card,it must have originated in the U.K.

From day 1 the card gave Me the U.K epg and more&more channels(latest being channel 4)appeared free to air on the epg,If I replace the dark blue(originally from U.K it seems)with a defunct light blue Irish card I lose all u.k free to view channels but i gain setanta sports news free to view lol.

Moral of the story ? if You have any buddies in U.K ask them to send their old card to you,sky changing cards imminent.

May,be their defunct card will act as a ftv card as the last changeover card did for Me ?
    good luck
