Thanks to Fitz and friend, ZV Yoda, eoin5 and henessjon for a great day. Really enjoyed it.
I will upload the raw tracks tonight. It will take a while. I will post links when they are done.
    Post mixes in this thread.
Here is my quickish mix from today. I will have another look at it during the week if I get a chance.

Looking forward to hearing the different mixes.

I am SERIOUSLY impressed guys.. I really wanted to throw my hat in and play or watch this being done, but didnt have time with picking up a new guitar today and having two kids under 2 years old..

I expected something a bit meh... but am gutted I wasn't involved now.. Well done, love the sound..

Fitz's "friend" here... bit of a MP forum lurker - I'm coming out of the shadows to say thanks to trackmix for today.
It was such an interesting process to sit in on, particularly in contrast to a "normal" session where the performers have vested interest in the recordings - it being a session for the session's sake, as a learning experience was great...

If this is happening again I'd love to sit-in/lurk/make tea; have yet to see a sesssion in a real studio in the flesh.

To echo the above...great day, very interesting doing something totally different and seeing a consummate professional at work. Was great to be able to see how Mick approaches things and pick his brain. He's got a lovely setup out there and was a joy to work with.

Personally, some of it was a challenge...the song's in a range I wouldn't usually sing in (being hungover didn't help :p), and some of the harmonies were thrown together pretty quickly. All the guitars were me too, which I wasn't fully prepared for. All in all though, I think we got good end results which I hope will make for interesting mixes being posted on here, and I learned a heap of things today that made it an incredibly worthwhile and enjoyable exercise.

Lastly, thumbs up to ZV Yoda and eoin5 for doing a great job on drums and bass. Looking forward to doing this again!

Yip, just to add my thanks to Mick. A great host who explained everything he did throughout the session. He really knows his stuff. Any man who uses 20 channels for a drum kit is a legend in my book!

As catho_monster pointed out, it was a really great experience for all of us. I think we all had a fair few "wow, I never knew that" moments.... and we've all added some new gear to our "I have to get one of those" lists.

Thanks also to Fitz & eoin5 who knew their stuff & were able to get everything done without any fuss. It was great to work with a bunch of folks who just got on with playing music. Egos were all left at the door & I never once heard anybody say "could you just turn me up a bit please?" A great days work all round.

Last but not least, special thanks to "Ma Trackmix" for the tea & coffee!

Next stop, DamagedTrax for the mix session tomorrow!

Gotta say man, I'm really impressed with the vocals. I guess, given the original, I was bracing myself for a faux American accent. Great to hear a genuine and identifiable Irish accent coming through. Kudos.

Thanksto all involved for putting this on, I learned a heck of a lot today. Not least the value of a fresh set of strings :D

    +1 on the vocals.

I too was expecting a fake american accent thats way too common in Irish bands. Fair play to ya for using your own accent, it sounds great, gives yere version its own personality.

It gives me hope that we're not living in an american satellite after all.

What more could you ask for on a Sunday evening than a bit of hope?

Cheers guys. I only ever sing in my own voice...can't stand the faux American accents that a lot of Irish singers use...

Here is updated mix with fixed guitar progression.
woodsdennis pointed out a wrong chord in the chorus.

Here are updated edited distorted guitar tracks for anyone who is mixing.
Use these in place of the guitars in the original download files posted above.

ok I done what I thought what should be done

and i ended with a fine messy mud pack

what the hell am i doing wrong

    3rd try in progress

probably why most my songs are maximum of 10 trax

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 843 ✭✭✭trackmixstudio

Try cutting the low mids on the guitars 150-300Hz. Should clean up a lot of mud and make room for the bass and kick drum. The mesa TR pushes LOADS of low mid.
There are about 50 tracks but you don't have to use them all. For my mix I just used the SM57 mics for the guitars
