Hi Guy so my compuer was crashing for a while and i was told it could be because i have more than 1 antivirus software running. Im wondering is "Skybot: S&D" enough to protect my computer???

If I were you I'd uninstall any other antivirus programs (you should only be using one anyway as they'll otherwise conflict with each other), and then get AVG Free (http://free.avg.com/).

That'll be enough to get you basic protection, but they do a version you can buy that'll give you more features as well.

I'm not an expert, however when I got a spyware virus before, I installed Skybot and a few days later my computer crashed and wouldn't work at all! so i wouldn't reccommend it (i'm not saying it made computer crash, just that it didn't get rid of the virus).

Anyway had to get a friend to fix it for me, after days of cleaning it he installed Avira Anti Vir personal and havn't had a problem since.

I'm using a free firewall (Sygate) which blocks unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. On top I use Spybot and do random free online scans with Trendmicro and Kaspersky. My router also protects me from port scans.
Never had any issues but then I don't click on everything shiny either ;) I used free AVG a while but it did affect system performance slightly.

In my opinion the firewall is prio 1 as it protects against worms and trojans, the rest is cleared by Spybot and online scans.

I have Avast's free 4.8 Home Edition anti-virus & Windows Firewall on my Laptop. Is this enough protection (particularily for online banking) or does it require more?

Sorry for hijackin your thread OP.

+1 for AVG Free (Currently up to version 8.5).

Also it might help to get CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/download), you can delete any temp files that are cluttering up your machine. Very handy if you want it to run at it's optimum potential.

And Firefox (or IE) with AdBlockPlus (http://adblockplus.org/en/). Stops any unwanted spam or ads popping up on sites.

Avg 8.5 is the business for free.......and Skybot S/D in the backgroung is good to have secondary. Run skybot S/D every other day to check for any problems. I have both these and find them O.K No compatability issues.

Don't use spybot, it hasn't been updated in ages compared to other programs, it is ruthless in using your computers memory and is very agressive and that's why your crashing.

For the best protection you need a firewall, antivirus, and antispyware. I use eset nod32 and superantispyware and have been virus free since I changed to them

I would also recommend avg full paid version

I'd second Avira http://www.free-av.com/ or Avast. I use Avira and it's excellent but bear in mind it doesn't have an email scanner. I use GMail for email so it isn't a big deal.

Online Armor is an excellent firewall http://www.tallemu.com/free-firewall-protection-software.html Remember to turn of the Windows firewall, you can't use 2.

Another layer of protection is something like Spyware terminator http://www.spywareterminator.com/. I'm trying out Drive Sentry at the minute. It is an AV too though you can turn of AV protection and use its HIPS protection. Seems good so far but I only have it 2 weeks.

I use SUPERantispware and MalwareAntibytes to scan every week for mal/spyware, I just alternate between the 2 every 2nd week. No harm.
