    I think you need to specify the part of the country that you're in if you're looking for ideas.
    Lakes and beaches around Clare here. Lakes for those that are less confident, sea swimming for those that are happy to deal with currents and tides.
    If you're going sea swimming, get as much info as possible from the locals.

    I swim at Sea Point (Monkstown). Very safe, very sheltered, always few people swimming there.
    250m from steps to the rocks (500m return) or 600m from steps to the "wall" (1200m return).

    Anywhere closer to the city centre? Wondering would there be any interest in a boards lunchtime o/w swim over the summer? I know clubs / individuals have used Grand Canal Dock in the past, but I've no direct expereince? Any one else?

    Hi everyone,

    I am a keen swimmer and am looking at getting into open water swimming but dont want to go it alone my first few times. Does anyone know of clubs around the dublin area? Or does anyone have any general advice for me? Id really appreciate it :D cheers
