Failed the NCT today on 2 Fail/Refusals

Any idea what I need to get fixed and a rough estimate on what it will cost please?

    1. Side-Slip Alignment test:
    Front Axel -16m/km

Think this is to do with tracking?

    2. Visual Defects
Steering Linkage(43) Rank/Pinion Condition Play Offside Front (right)

    Thanks

    ding

It means theres wear in the steering. It could be either the inner tie-rod or the track rod end or both. The side slip reading means your tracking is out. When the steering is repaired make sure you get the tracking reset.

Thanks for that! Any idea of a ball park figure for either or both?

It depends on the car ! Make sure to get a few prices because there can be a huge difference between a main stealer and an independant.

Ouch not what I wanted to hear. :( The car is a 01 Renault Laguna old model type with 113,000 miles on the clock. I'm wondering now whether to cut my losses but I suppose I'd have a job selling it with no NCT.

What car will you get for 300 euro? If the rest of the car is sound, I wouldn't see a problem putting 300 into it.

I got the tracking rod and tie rod done on my 98 Laguna a year ago (shortly before writing it off as it happened  ) and it wasn't anywhere near 300 euro. Go to a non-dealer garage, like Advance Pitstop, or some small local outfit. Advance in Limerick did mine, and it was quite reasonable. I was getting timing belt and a few other things at the same time, so can't remember how much the tracking rod was.

Yeah your right. I'll get a few quotes and see how it goes. No loan on it at this stage so I'd be crazy to try and sell it and put myself in debt at this stage.
