What's a 20 kg bag of calf milk replacer costing?

How much of a discount when you buy in bulk?

If you don't have milking cows you have no other choice. I am paying €40 for a 20kg bag.

At half a kilo a day a bag would last a calf about 6 weeks, so that's €1 a day to feed your calf.

    cheers

I bought a bag of calf starter today the price was €10.20 for a 25kg bag which is €408 a tonne. As soon as the calves start eating enough of it I will switch them to a cheaper ration. I don't know if you can get coarse dairy ration any more as I was told a few years ago that it had almost the same ingredients as calf ration and only half the price of calf ration.

Paying e8.6 for 25kg. Much cheaper to mix your own after getting them started on the munchy as we call it here.

    Barley,Soya 4:1 and add minerals.

depending on the size of the calf but an average calf would probably consume about 500g. wholemilk calves probably a good bit less as dairymen usually feed more milk.

    5litres @7% solids = 34c/l = €1.70 per day

    cheap TAD milk rep @ 125g/l . 4.5l/calf, €35/bag = €.80c per day

good TAD milk rep same feed as above €42/bag =€.93 per day

    OAD powder 170g/l. 3l/calf. €44/bag = €1.10 per day

    back of an envelope calculations!
