Driving Test in Left-hand Drive Car?

Does anyone know if it is possible/allowed to take the driving test in a left-hand drive car? I am American and had a full license and plenty of driving experience, but I need to get my Irish driving license. I would plan to own and drive a left-hand drive car in Ireland, so I was just wondering about possibly doing the test in a left-hand drive car as well.

Yes, it's perfectly acceptable (but the vehicle must be registered in the republic of Ireland).

Are you deliberately looking for a left-hand drive, or so you already have it? I'm pretty sure it's illegal to sell them here, although if that's true I'd say it only applies to dealers.

There are no regulations prohibiting the sale (either privately or by the trade) of a left hand drive vehicle here.

Some vehicles are not available in right hand drive.
