I have a Frester 2.5XT insured with Hibernian, €475 comp. Have an IAM licence, though, which is worth 30%.

Im always changing the car plus I have a couple of older cars and a little recovery truck so I got fed up with different policies and different prices every time I changed car. The answer to my problem was to just get my own trade policy. Covers me and the missus fully comp up to 80 grand including the recovery truck. €1260 all in for the year to drive anything. If you're gonna spend €1200 you might as well get the lot.

Just call any insurance company or broker who specialise in trade policies. They usually advertise this fact. O Reilly Cullens in Dublin are a big one. I used Smiths of Navan.

Don't you need to be in the trade though Saab??

saab, did you get an insurance disk or anything for when yov switch between cars, a trade policy would suit me down to the ground as 1) i change my car alot 2) i have alot of cars haha 3) i do have a business of my own

Yeah you get as many disks as there are people named on the policy ( in my case 2 ) and you just get the policy holders name on it instead of a reg number. Im not a business , I just love cars...

saab, so u can put your disk in another cars window and drive it ? Do u have smiths number by chance ?

I must try smiths cos I was quoted 2500 yesterday by o'reilly cullen.

29yo male, 6 years NCB, no points, claims or convictions.

I tried O Reilly cullen too....€600 more than Smiths. I must point out that policy is restricted to 3.5 ton vehicles so B licence only but after that Im delighted. ( Oh and the policy is in my wifes name cause she has oodles of NCB and Im a named driver)

Just give them a ring, should be gettin a call back later today. This could be a great thing.... Get insured in 1 car or get insured in every car haha.

thats very expensive for a GTB legacy which is the estate version with 260bhp iirc.

i got a quote on a legacy B4 RSK 280bhp version the other day on www.123.ie for 700e fully comp. im 27 6 years NCB, no points etc.

@saabman, did you tell them you were in the trade or just explain you were an enthusiast? Will you actually be insured in an accident, not being in the trade?
I'm guessing they'll laugh at me being just 21...

the propsal form will ask you your occupation, you should be 100% clear to the broker that you do not work in the trade & make sure the policy will cover you.
Im surprised that brokers will get quotes for people not in the trade, defeats the purpose of this insurance

There are part time trade policies too.

    thats what we're talking about.

Aimed at people with day jobs outside the trade who do a bit of wheeling and dealing, or a small bit of servicing or valeting etc.

XSDirect.ie do good quotes for sports cars but, as their name implies, there is a big excess on their policies - Eur 4000 on most I think.

123 don't cover imports so if the B4 is an import then the quote means nothin, they have ek9 civics on the list which come only as an Import (same as a B4 I think) but yet they won't cover em.

I emailed them and asked if they'd cover an Accord Type R import and they said no, the quote was for a euro model only. I found it strange because it's not in the terms
