Got a text from the taxi company I normally use - VIP Taxi 01-4793703 - yesterday, 20% discount off all fares booked through their number.

They operate across Dublin and are fairly prompt sending a car when you call them. I think 8202020 do a similar offer but I don't know what their service is like.

Have used 018202020 a few times. Been picked up on southside and northside ontime every time. Also for those of you claiming back expenses the receipt is for the full fare and the driver then charges the full minus the discount. Good deal!

Just make sure you mention the 20% when you book the taxi and that they have your number. First time I tried it, the driver tried to weasel out of it first saying 'ah yeah you just saw the cards there', then 'your caller id mustn't have shown up when ya called'.

That reminds me, gotta book a taxi for the mornin'!

    It is what it's.

hilarious. looks like vip cant keep up with the competition.
i love this off there site Offering Five Star quality service to the hospitality and corporate sector FIVE STAR TAXIS has chosen to lead rather than follow.

Is it possible to book one of those 8 20 20 20 taxis to bring you home from a night out on the weekend to get the 20% off? Would be cheaper than getting one on the rank.

Depends on the fare. I asked one driver of one of these 20% off was there a call out charge. Yes. €2. So actually it only starts saving you money after the fare is €10.

actually when the fare is 7.45 you start saving. plus anyone thinking of the 20 % is obviously doing long journeys over 10 euro anyway so they would be saving. and for every other passenger your paying 80 cent with the discount rather then 1 euro

Word of warning about the 8202020 cabs. Make sure you say it to them when you get to your destination. Ive ordered cabs from them around 10 times and half the time, they try to charge you the full fare. Also, they just seem to take away 20% in their head and always round up. I dont have the neck to try and correct them as it seems petty..but you rarely get the full 20% off.
It comes out of the drivers pocket, thats why they do it.

I doubt a random punter will get that rate, that rate is only for HSE as they spend millions on taxis, it's like saying HSE get their Dell computers with 50% off as they buy in bulk so ask Dell for 50% off the next time you want a home PC.

That last post was slightly tongue in cheek, but there is a huge race to the bottom in fares and NRC ARE THE FRONT RUNNERS!!

Actualy the word on the streets is that City Cabs AKA Global AKA 2020 were the ones who started the race

Spook are you deliberately misreading my post or do you have a vested interest?. Yes City Cabs started the discount war with 20% reductions. I did say NRC are the front runners, not were the front runners. City Cabs have offered 25% discounts but the ante has been upped to 40/50% now by NRC
Anyway the same people who think this is great, are the same people who will be supporting the poor taxi drivers who are driven to sign on now, as there is no living to be made. The taxi companies treat their drivers, who pay them, with complete disdain!.

Actualy no I didn't misread your post, I'm just adding to the overall scenario, your opinion that NRC are leading the race is merely complimented by my addition that the race was started by CityCabs/Global/2020.

If I was to critisice the post in anyway I would have said that KCR are leading the race with their 50% off vouchers for Mondays to Fridays.

As I don't use a radio company ( since I left Dial-A-Cab in June 2009 ) I hardly think I have a vested interest other than a dislike in general for any discount companies

How do you figure that one out?
When your meter reads €7.45..... mine reads €5.45, as I don't have the €2 pick up charge, 20% of €7.45 is €1.50 which means you charge €6 (if you're generous .........reports suggest this isn't the case with drivers having to be asked for the discount and tending to round up quite a bit) anyhow you'd still more expensive than me at this point

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 77 ✭✭hollands

Sorry Spook, I thought you were trying to defect he blame towards City/ Global, but point taken. They are all falling over themselves to put their hands deeper into the driver's pockets. It's quite ironic really as they were the first to point the finger at the low lifes like Ebbs, when it first started.

Anyway give it a couple of years and the only people driving taxis in Ireland will be non-nationals who will be prepared to work over 80/ 90 hour weeks to make minimum wage.

Actualy they're are still the same price at €10 discount fare less 20% is €8 normal taxi fare without call out is €8 Go figure

I would ask people NOT to phone these discount firms, for their own safety and for the safety and dignity of the taxi drivers .
