Theory re Christian Shepherd

This is my first time posting on Boards but I’m a regular reader of the forum and in particular the Lost threads. Not one to come up with theories really but had a small epiphany yesterday in relation to Christian Shepherd while I was walking home from work and looking forward to viewing the latest episode! (maybe someone has come up with this already so forgive me if that’s the case). It just came to me that maybe Christian Shepherd was trying to get back to the island on the oceanic 815 flight in exactly the same was as John Locke’s death was all about getting back also on flight 316 and therefore, was he orchestrating exactly what John, Ben & Co. were doing on the recent flight – getting back to the island for a particular reason????. Had always assumed that Christians appearances were as a spirit or just a manifestation of Jacob but given that his coffin was empty when Jack opened it in season 1 then he’s presumably as corporeal as Locke is now and was just brought back to life on his return to the island. Anyone have any thoughts? Of course this could / would also mean that there were other passengers on the oceanic 815 flight trying to get back that maybe haven’t been factored in yet, or maybe something went wrong with the plan? Could it be a repeating cycle of some sorts? And given that Jack, Kate and Hurley didn’t’ remember the crash when they returned………..Who knows, just a thought! Feel free to blow me out of the water!!!!

Ya i agree with a lot of the things you are saying, i'm just wondering when could he have been on the island? If he was on the island then it looks like there is a cycle there eg. when jack left the island he became an alcoholic and basically a complete mess until he realised he had to go back.. I'd say a lot will be explained by the end of this season about christian!

If Christian Shepherd was on the island before it would have been a long time ago before Jack was born as there is no 'I've been here before' vibes from Janitor Jack.

I had come to the same conclusion as this but then identified 1 flaw in this thinking. He was way back in the past when Locke turned the wizard wheel but now hes in the 'current' time with Sun and Frank, unlike some.
On a related note, everytime I think I've figured out the rules for what group of people met the criteria for time-travel I keep finding another issue such as this.

Maybe he just stays in the same time as Locke for some random reason?
dunno most things to do with christian dont make any sense yet . Locke seems to be alive (eating a mango walking around talking to people without mysteriously appearing in cabins etc) but christian is more like a ghost or something only talking to certain people and apearing in places as if by magic eg down in the donkey wheel well when locke went down in the past.

Christian has something to do with jacob, we basically know nothing about jacob either which is kinda annoying. I hope they shed some light on jacob soon.
