Forecast suggests some change in the wind, though it might rain.

I'm in unless numbers suggest it might be too hard a slog, I'll also be out monday again if anyone is around.

    9 am so?

Have people coming over for dinner tonight - if they go home, I'm in. If they stay the night, I'm out. 9am start is fine by me.

Hrm... I could have sworn it said that wind speed would be 7 (km/hr?) for tomorrow earlier on in the week. Looks to be clearing down on Sunday though.

I'm almost afraid to mention it but with the talk of wintry showers across the country tonight might ice be a problem up the hills?

i am more of ten am man ...
dare I mention your hair blowing in the wind or would that be flogging a dead horse?

am iffy about the wind still
Winds NNW at 25 to 35 mph forecast for wicklow

It's not too windy around Wicklow- other than right on the top of the mountains at the exposed areas. I have been out to Enniskerry every day this week, up Glencree and the featherbeds and along Pine Forest Road/Viewpoint/Stocking Lane. Featherbeds was the only really windy bit.

Yes, Mr. Ed was carted off to the glue factory some time ago.

10 a.m. is also good, seeing as there is no rugby on or anything I don't think people are in a major rush to get back.

I'll decide in the morning, a lot of different weather reports floating about. If it's anything like monday then I might leave it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

Might do a flat-ish fixie lycra spin tomorrow ... work on that speed ...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

A fixie (ahem, singlespeed) spin is tempting.

I'll go. Racing on Sunday so no 4/5 hour jobs for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

10am Luas Bridge Dundrum so? To be honest when it is windy the mountains are a lot better than the flats, there is a lot of shelter.

I'm out. First of probably many Saturdays this year when I'll be knee deep in DIY. Planning on heading out much earlier, but I think I'm coming down with something, so even that may have to be scratched. Sick again. Sigh...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,104 ✭✭✭alfalad

Would love to head out with ye, god knows I need the training but once again i won't be able to make it. This time it's getting my rear wheel back tomorrow morning now that the spring is replaced.

Dirk i might be tempted by Monday morning though as i feel a sick day coming along.:D Will make a call on Sunday me thinks.

Mr Bastardi says tomorrow winds from NW @40km/h

Wheras Sunday Winds from SW at 8KM/h.

I will hope that he is correct and defer until Sunday.

Anybody fancies saving themselves until then, then I would be glad of the company. Time - flexible (but would like early).
Destination - Wicklow (would like to try Long Hill and Lugalla approach to Sally Gap - and Kippure again if wind remains low).

@Alfalad, If Met Eireann is correct, at least I will have a tail wind on the home leg. Wheras if they are right I will have wind in my face as I head home tomorrow.

As a betting man, the odds are more favourable for Sunday.

Wind is as much a part of cycling as hills, I used to hate it but grew to live with it (note I would not say love it :)) I would suggest you all HTFU and come out. For the windy bits I would hope we could get a good paceline going, you are then completely sheltered from the wind (honest) other than your 30 seconds or so at the front before you rotate back again. You would not believe how well this works if you have not done it before.

You undoubtedly have a very valid point, but I am quiet content in my position as the soft underbelly of the boards cycling community:)

Hi was out over Howth this evening on way home from office in wind and rain, so reckon if forecast for Sunday is better would prefer to go with that. Can meet anywhere but happy to meet in Dundrum as usual for e.g. 9:30. By the way, I think I saw Raam going toward Howth when I was heading back with my triathlete companion from the office. I think my poor commute bike needs a good clean after tonight!

Anyone else going to go for Sunday - go on you'd love it........!

I remember seeing two roadies heading town-ward along the track. Was that you two?

Did you meet Blorg? I didn't coming down from Glencree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 650 ✭✭✭jimm

Just back from a 45km solo spin on one of my usual circuits-Clondalkin/Newcastle/Celbridge/Barberstown/Maynooth/Leixlip/Clondalkin. Wind was a ba***rd though, some nasty crosswinds, I'm shattered. Felt like a 100km spin in the Wicklow mountains.

Met them at Glencree- I came over the Featherbeds. Which way did you go? Wasn't too windy really, few bits descending but gravity more than made up for it there.

Weather really seems to have picked up now, could be a nice day tomorrow. Snow on top of Kippure if you look closely.

Ah, OK. I dropped down to Enniskerry from Glencree.

Did 103km door to door which is my first century :). Went back towards Glencullen for the final bit, there's one serious curving turn on the way up Barrack/Bridge Road to there, is that Devil's Elbow or is it the 90 degree angle just coming into Glencullen?

There was a serious amount of snow up on one of the hills down around past Laragh too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

@Dó;nal- yes, that is the Devil's Elbow (on the road from Enniskerry to Glencullen.)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 385 ✭✭emty

Some pics from today.Great performance from Donal, you certainly put us to shame.Would have to think that any century, let alone your first one,was worth double in the conditions out there today :)

Yep probably. We were on way back from office via Howth, so had backpacks. I had my hi-vis yellow gilet over a blue top. At the last minute I thought I caught sight of a boards collar. A lovely evening for it .....not too bad when going with the wind.
