Questions about Banned Retailer info in charter

    Hi Guys,

Sorry this is nit-picking but its been bugging me a little
    for quite a while.

The Airsoft charter says that no mention of banned retailers is allowed.

However it does not inform people which ones they
    cannot discuss.

When someone mentions a banned retailer on the airsoft board the mods come along and snips the post & give a warning.

New people coming to to airsoft board cant possibly
know in advance before they post what retailers are banned
and what retailers are not banned.

I only know of two banned retailers here on the airsoft boards.
One is an Irish one, the other is a China Based one that was
    banned for spamming via PM's

I'm unaware if there is any more than that.

Further more people mention the China Based Banned retailer here
and nothing gets said to them, and their posts dont get snipped.
And there is even a link to the banned retailer under the BDU section for
China Retailers on one of the stickys.

grstarkey78 the OP mentioned a banned retailer twice before a Mod stepped in
but how the hell was he supposed to know before he posted if the retailer was banned or not
especially when you can see ads for them in Airsoft Publications and google searches.

This is now covered in the charter.

And as you all know you should read the charter of a forum before you post in it

That's actually a fair point, mods. It's a logical impossibility, especially since the Irish retailer in question spends a fair amount on advertising and his banners pop up quite frequently in other places.

Those of us who know the history between TBR and boards.ie understand why he's banned, but newbies don't, and can't easily find out in advance.

Here's a suggestion, maybe a bit daft, but who knows... add that retailer to the profanity filter, so that every time its mentioned by accident, it gets replaced by *** :)

In any case, it's not fair (or welcoming) to newbies to be hitting them with bans unless they know what to avoid beforehand. I'm not disagreeing with the rule, but you have to be fair about it. There must be some solution?

(I believe there's a feedback thread somewhere, move if appropriate.)

The charter was amended to say:
    * No mention of banned retailers is allowed. It is unfair on retailers who follow the rules to give free advertising to those that couldn't.
If you are unsure what retailers are banned please PM a Mod for clarification.

The simple reason we dont put it in the charter who it is is because we don't want to create a legal issue and we are taking advice on it.

The reason the retailer is banned is exactly the same reason anyone gets banned and that is serious breaching of Boards and airsoft forum rules. They got more chances then the average user gets and still manged to get them selfs banned. Its unfortunate that anyone gets banned form here but why should anyone be above the rules?

Which is fair enough. But then, in the meantime, it isn't fair to be handing out bans to newbies who have no way of finding out in advance who they can talk about and who not.

So a small amount of leeway may be in order... by all means continue snipping, but go easy on the ban-hammer unless p!ss is being taken. Temper the wind to the shorn lamb, and all that.

What newbie has been banned? in fact name one person who has been banned for mentioning it? No one has, plenty of warnings and us editing posts but thats it.

The newbie in this case knew it would seem to me BTW.

Yes, it did. Which is why discussion of that retailer is not banned.

Oh sweet, I was told they were spamming bastards, but now I feel better when giving them money.

While we're on the subject of banned retailers, could we take the GPS coordinates for TBR and Gorse Hill off the newbie directions + GPS post. was trawling through there yesterday and saw them, especially surprised to see GPS for gorse hill considering what's been going on.

This explains a lot. So it was not the retailer itself that was spamming?
This is why we can discuss ebaybanned. There was several times I wanted
to mention them and didnt thinking I would get a snippity snip.

With regards to the other crowd, I dont think there will be any way to stop
new people from mentioning or asking about them, so its likely there will be noobs
    wondering what they did wrong.

As mentioned, we're trying to work out if we can name the particular retailer in the charter as it's the only way to make new people aware.

However, we really don't want to leave boards.ie open to any kind of libel action. Really have to be careful with this kind of thing.

If anyone ever wants to know anything further about it or is wondering why something got snipped then sending a pm to a moderator is an easy enough thing to do. I have no problem providing such information in private.

Actually further to the newbie point, I'm fairly sure no new posters have been banned for that. Or warned even. We usually just ask them not to mention said banned retailer again. There's no 'or else' attached to that.

So in summary before I lock this thread -

    1. Ebaybanned is not banned from discussion here. It was a troll acting the bollocks
    2. For the moment we're going to continue snipping/asking people not to mention said retailer. If we hear back about mentioning this in the charter we'll let you all know with a charter update. Until then feel free to pm any of us about the issue.
