how do you get your dole money ?

Can somebody who has recently signed on the dole and got their payment please clarify something for me

When a person ( irish ) signs on these days, how do they give you your payment ?

Is it in to your bank account every week ? or has that all been changed.

Does one now have to go to the post office every week to collect the payment, like they used to do years ago ?

Do they give you a choice as to whether you would like the money in the bank or the post office

How often are you required to sign on.weekly or monthly ?

Im living in a very rural area and i have no transport so its a big hassle for me not having a car.

    Replies appreciated..

    • first you have to sign on in social welfare office
    • they give you date when to collect the dole. Yes. It's every week in the post office
    • as well you have to show up once a month in social welfare office...
    • you might try to ask social welfare to send it to your account but you have to give them a big reason...
    • you will get all answers if you call in social welfare office

It says on the application form that you can have it sent to your bank account but when I went to sign on I was told this is no longer allowed and you have to collect it from post office weekly.

Why would ( irish ) have any relevance ?

This ended approx. 1.5 yrs ago. You are corrrect...this used to be the case, but the Government put a stop to it. I'm sure it was convenient for legitimate folk but it wouldn't take a genius to figure out how favourable this method proved to the not so legitimate cases:rolleyes:

People who were claiming before the change in payment method still get it into their bank account.

I claimed for a couple months back in late 2006 and it went into my bank.

If i had to go back on the dole would i get it in bank or post office?

Any new claims go to post office.

But would i count as a new claim? I wouldn't be filling up the form for a new claim

yes you'd be filling out the form for the new claim, since it's separate from your claim in 2006.

i was also on dole for part of 2004, when making the claim in 2006 i didn't fill out form for a new claim. It was a much shorter form..they said it was for re-opening a existing claim even though 2 years had passed. its probably changed since then
