    hi folks,

can't quite understand this, i have a mac mini running tiger - absolutely no problem opening a pdf file downloaded from the web.

but also have a macbook running leopard 10.5.6 and cannot open a pdf file downloaded from the web. i get the following message "you can't open the file pdf because it is not supported on this architecture".....???? what gives?

    thanks for any tips.

Is one of the Macs a PowerPC (as apposed to Intel)? Did you migrate stuff over to the new machine?

Have you run Monolingual recently? Or any other app that strips unwanted resources from OS X?

    Hi,

spot on sad professor - mac mini is a power pc. hooked it up to macbook via firewire cable and transferred all files across to the macbook.

as for other apps that would cause a problem can't think of any other than aperture.

there must be some free application on the web that will open pdf files.

It probably transferred over the PPC version of Preview. Go to Preview in the apps folder and Get Info. It should say the kind of app is either PowerPC or Universal.
