So I have been playing Warrhammer fantasy, 40k and LoTR in general for about 3 years now. Ive gotta a pretty big collection. A Wood elf Warrhammer army, an Ork 40k army and god knows what for LoTR but its to much lol. I used to play alot in GW in Blanch but the staff and managers have completly changed. Literally btw.New staff.

I have lost interest in the hobby itself simply because I dont get along with the manager simply because everytime i mention something that isnt warrhammer related i get a very evil glare that tells me to shut the hell up on the spot or instead I sometimes hear blashomy coming from some other random staff member. Maybe this is just me I dont know. Anybody else had something similar ?

I dont wanna let all my money go to waste so I'am just wondering does anybody have any ideas that could get be back in the mood for a bit of gaming ?

Yeah GW has been like that for the last God knows how many years; i worked in both Blanch & Liffey st & would routinely get into trouble for talking about non GW products. On staff hobby day i'd really annoy them & paint non GW figures. Starship troopers had been just released by mongoose at the time so i used to paint them. Did this mostly to get transferred out of Blanch as i hated it there due to the managers attitude towards irish people in general (he was english). Went to Liffey st & got more of the same but it wasn't to bad. If you want to game somewhere in a relaxed atmosphere where the GW thought police can't reach then go to Models Inc on Dorset street if you haven't been there yet. They're mentioned elsewhere on the boards & all positive. You can find them online www.modelsinc.ie

That's not GW that's the people, having worked there (Liffey) we talked about non-GW stuff a lot as did the manager at the time. It just depends on the people you have working there not the actually company.

When guys/girls I knew would come into the shop talking about Warmachine I would jokingly say "Heresy!" but obviously we'd still have a conversation about it, I would say what I thought about Warmachine/Hordes and they would usually accept my point and say some things about GW, it was all in good humour y'know?

    My two cents.

Ok Warmaster your time there was obviously under different managers than when i was there. Don't get me wrong i had been going there since the place opened & most of the managers & staff were by and large sound but there were a good few 'GW only' type people there in my time too. The last manager of blanch (not the current one) was a disgrace, he ignored countless warnings over one staff members unhealthy interest in pre teen girls & till theft was rampant under his watch but i've no idea if he knew about that part or was benefitting from it. He managed to alienate a lot of people who'd been coming there for years & barred one of the guys who ran the Dublin games guild for no good reason. Then it was 'suggested' to me that i should back the managers version of events to blacken this mans name. When i refused to do so it didn't go down too well to say the least. Having said that i don't regret working there one bit, some of the best days of my life work wise. The pay & conditions were in the toilet but it wasn't all about the money.
All i can say is i learned an awful lot about GW & how they operate & how they view their customers & staff. However i never liked the way that they reacted whenever someone struck up a conversation about other companies & their games. So thats why i love models inc though i don't get to drop in there nearly as much as i'd like. Huge store, great selection of products, gaming tables, you don't get harassed when you go in but if you need help they'll treat you like a king & make you WANT to come back even if you end up buying nothing. On top of that Martin (owner of the shop) is a decent skin & knows his stuff & isn't just spouting whatever Nottingham is telling him to.

Yeah I'm pretty sure we've already spoken in DCU's gamessoc about this ;)

Like your story confirms it's the staff that have given it a bad name in the past not the company. Lately I've heard very little complaining about the company, they seem to be doing fantastically well and the models...the models are to die for nowadays, and cheaper to boot! Now sprues are well worth the cash you fork for them.

Guys like the manager you spoke of will be found in every shop tbh although I haven't worked with that particular manager enough to know him.

I'm eager to meet the new manager in Liffey now.

Liffey Street has a new manager? Since when? I haven't been in there for years due to GW's habit of barring ex staff members for no particular reason. I might throw my head in & have a look around the old place for posteritys sake & just to see how bad the hassling currently is.:D

hmm, go get back into the gaming, you could join a club? or if you've a few friends willing to travel, have a game in each of your houses once a week (so long as u have a big table to use, or even some free floor space. We used to have an on-going game of Space hulk and heroquest going on in mine every sunday, but its been out of action for a while since the guy with the games bought a house. Ah well.

Do you still play LOTR? I have a large collection but it's hard finding opponents. I play in GW Liffey Street most Saturdays so if you're in the area......

Okay, Models Inc saved my hobby...It is truly amazing!

Gah just as I was getting money together I find new games like warmachine and hordes! Damn you Models Inc! :o

    Warmachine & Hordes are great!

    Plus, check out http://bloodbowl-ireland.org

It's a big bloodbowl ladder that is very loosely based around the Models Inc shop. It used to be based around the shop, but now we've got a big cork contingent playing in the ladder too.

Bloodbowl is the best of the GW games imo, and it's cheap to buy a team (compared to buying an army for another game), we've a lot of coaches, and fresh meat is always welcome.
