This topic has already been discussed in other threads but for the benefit of anyone who hasn't read them, it is a concern that waiting lists could increase.

In saying this however, at the end of 2008, the RSA estimated that there would be an avg of 4800 applications per week, which would require all their resources plus about 40 SGS testers. To date however the avg no. of applications received per week is less than 3800, which can easily be handled by existing RSA testers. Some centres such as Tallaght have seen an increase in waiting times, but extra testers ar being deployed to these areas to bring the waiting lists down.

That's absolutely right and like every other business driving schools are struggling. In fact it's a good time for people to learn to drive as in many cases they'll probably get lessons cheaper than they cost 2 years ago.
Shop around and you should get lessons from an ADI instructor for less than €35 per hour.

One downside to this however is that many people are putting off getting pre-tests to save money which is leading to a high failure rate. I was speaking to a tester earlier today and she told me that the standard of applicant over the past few weeks is appalling, with very few people who have had no pre-tests being successful.

I had a test with SGS scheduled for the 23rd of April, if I hadn't rang them I wouldn't have known my test was cancelled. I rang RSA and they told me they hadn't got anything around the 23rd of April and I'd have to wait again. Two days ago, my sister gets her driving test for the 21st of April
