Just wondering what some of the folks around here use? Would like to invest but not too sure what I should be using. Would prefer more than the basic stopwatch but nothing that is going to break the bank. Cheers.

It really depends on what you're doing and what info you need. I use a cheap digital wristwatch with a stopwatch function for most of my running. Only if you need accuracy of distance on long runs, record your long run splits, or if you want to use a HR function would you need to invest in a Garmin 305 or something.

If you are in the Dublin area I happened to notice a good bargain in TK Max, in the Stephens Green SC. There were a selection of boxed New Balence endurance runners watches going for €19.99, from a suggested RRP of €104! Don't have one myself, but I'm sure you won't go wrong for that price.

I have the Timex ironman triathlon watch and its the business. I picked it up in the US for about €50. I am sure you can get it online for the same price

You can get a cheap enough Casio stopwatch in Argos, with usual lap function if you want to record your splits - granted, the race needs to be marked for that.

I use the cheapest of cheap Casio watches. Got it in Argos. Start/Stop... and it has a light! Although the light function doubles up as reset, which can make it fairly annoying at night!

    I have a garmin forerunner 50 ( the basic model )
    calculates distance,pace,splits,calories,steps,km or miles ...etc
It also comes with a footpod and usb stick to transfer all you running info onto the garmin website on your own page.

I got mine on ebay for €65 ...RRP is over €100 in most places

Cant go wrong,no more mapping distances...

I've used a Lidl/Aldi watch for years. It comes with a Heart Rate chest strap and has 20 memory slots. It'll teach you how to run against your heart rate. If you combine it with a site like maps.google.com or mapmyrun.com you'll be able to work out distances as well. These cost €15-€20

I have a garmin 405 now and despite some of the reviews I read about it beforehand it is a quality bit of kit. - I got it for about €200 on-line.
