Dura Ace 7600 Track Crankset

Ok, so I think my bargain basement FSA Vero cranks that came with the Felt are completely knackered. The creaking has got progressively worse and its doing my nut in. A more bike savvy friend is taking a look on sunday so I will no for sure if the problem is indeed with the cranks or not, but I want to upgrade anyway.

I know lots of people are fond of the sugino 75 cranks, but I saw these Dura Ace 7600 Track cranks on PBK and was wondering if anyone had any opinions or experience with them.

The specs for the bottom bracket I have are as follows:

FSA 68mm w/ Forged Chromoly Square Taper 107mm Spindle.

Should I swap this out as well? I think there may be an issue as the Dura Ace cranks are for a 109mm spindle.

Of course, if there are any other choices I am not aware of, offer them up! I was embarassed cycling through town last night by the sounds coing from my bike, it really sounded like an old junker :(

That is a serious amount of money for a track crankset for a street fixie IMHO. I would consider (and indeed have been considering) Truvativ Omniums which if you root around PX a bit you may find in 165 and 170, I would plan on getting them elsewhere in 175...

My own Veros creak too BTW, I see it as a sign of power, a validation if you will.

I doubt they creak as much as mine!

You are probably right, way too much money, but they do look nice! Where the heck are Raam and Tiny when you need them :)

I'd be really surprised if the cranks are the problem. Much more likely to be the bottom bracket. I'd imagine if you take out the BB clean it up, regrease everything, tighten the chainring bolts and give the chain a clean it will all be back to super silent fixie goodness.

Doing that is quite dull though compared to blowing £200 on a shiny new crankset. www.hubjub.co.uk have the Sugino 75 with the 75 ring (the slim one rather than the wider Zen ring) for less than the Dura Ace you linked to. You can probably beat the hubjub price too if you shop around. I know Tiny linked to a cheaper place a couple of weeks back.

Is the Miche stuff any good?

I have the Miche BB, and it's not been a problem for me at all, for the 15quid or so it costs, it's well worth it.

As for cranks, I'd go Sugino 75 -I have the 165mm's and they are stiff -fecking great crank and worth the cash -here's the cheapest I've found (need to get a chainring too).

The Miche cranks are also pretty good, as are the Sugino Zen... oh, and the Campag Record Pista ones are ace too :)

We'll have to start calling your Brother Blorg, what with all this penny-pinching recessionary talk.

Do you want Shimano to go out business?

    Those DA cranks are lovely.

I see it as a sign that you have dirt in your BB shell.

I hope so i've just bought that exact crankset set and a set of Miche track wheels both seem to have good build quality

Ok, plus I can get those cranks in black which is in keeping with the bike.

Seeing as I am singlespeed, do I really need 165mm cranks for higher cadence and avoiding pedal strikes, two things that don't bother me with my 170mm cranks?

Small, slightly irrelevant update. My friend who is quite the bike mechanic came over after our mountain bike spin and had a look.

He removed the cranks and BB, cleaned everything, regreased and tightened all the parts and now its running like a new bike. No more creaking and they feel a lot stiffer.

So, I may not be able to get shiny new cranks (nuts!) but I guess its another case of "a clean and well maintained bike is a happy bike to be on".
