have a very funny feeling you'll be looking at a very large bill. It can be done alright but there is some serious cost involved

Main dealer should be able to get you the km dial fascia. E-bay isn't throwing up anything strangely enough.

    it's around 600 for an A4.

Enquire from the main dealer about a reconditioned dash insert. These used to be available so I'll assume they still are. They are a lot less costly than a new unit. I'm not sure if they'll swap an imperial unit for metric but it's worth a go. You'll have to return your current dash unit.

Would the clocks have to be reset to zero if the whole unit was replaced?

Any replacement unit can (and should be) programmed to the mileage of the original unit.

Be careful when changing the clocks - As far as I know, the immobiliser circuitry is linked with the key, so you may not be able to start your car if you change them! I have an Octavia and this is the way it works so there's probably a good chance its the same for the Passat.

I would imagine you could just change the fascia of the existing unit.

Father had a Primera clock replaced once under warranty - read 0 when he collected it. Only proof was a tamp in the service book which could be easily - ahem - lost:eek:

I'd imagine the continent is your best bet, but I couldn't find any on ebay.de

I figure "Passat instrumentenkombination" is what your looking for...

Careful if you go for a second-hand replacement. I've had some problems with the clocks of my C5. I found out that if I replace them with a part from a scrap yard, the board computer inherits the higher mileage of the replacement clocks. You would need to get someone to reset the mileage on the replacements to zero. If the replacement clocks have lower mileage, then their mileage gets overwritten by the board computer to show the correct value.

I would imagine that it's similar for a Passat and most other modern cars. (Citroen dealer was looking for €750 new clocks btw)

Try ringing a crowd called LOGIC AUTOMOTIVE in greenogue ind est rathcoole. they will tell you how much it will cost and if they can do it. Sometimes they need the car so they can set it up.

I'm kind of the same. But I hate mph, I'd much rather it told me yards per hour instead.

The metric system is the tool of the devil! My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it.

I have 2003 Passat 1.8T. Does anyone know how to change the HUD display to read KM ? I bought it recently and it shows as miles. Can it only be done by mechanics or can I do it myself ? Thanks in advance for any help.

Aren't kms displayed in smaller font? If so why would ye bother:confused:???

Ah, forgot to mention, "on the digital panel". It says Miles and I'd like it to read in KM. Sorry for confusion.
